Mr. R.B. Barlow, age 64, of Lafayette, TN, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at his residence.  Funeral services, under the direction of Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home, were held Monday, July 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Burial followed in the Fountain Run Cemetery in Fountain Run, KY.  A native of Tompkinsville, KY, he was the son of the late Clurie Barton and the late Jewesse Humes Barlow.  He is survived by one daughter, Jackie Holland, and her husband, Chris, of Lafayette; one brother, Randy Barlow and his wife, Tricia, of Westmoreland; 10 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Mr. Barlow attended East Willow Church of God.

Mr. Alton Ray Blair, age 67, of Hartsville, TN died Tuesday evening, July 12, 2005 at his home.  He was preceded in death by his father, Cordell Hull Blair; mother, Virgie Lynch Blair; brother, Edwin Blair; and sister, Inez Brewster. Survivors include wife, Mrs. JoAnn Farley Blair of Hartsville, TN; 2 daughters: Mrs. Pam (Mark) Clark of Hartsville, TN and Mrs. Joyce (Don) Jones of Lafayette, TN; 3 grandchildren: Landon (Brandy) Clark of Portland, TN, Ashlea Clark of Hartsville, TN, and Jotham Jones of Lafayette, TN; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Mr. Franklin (Shirley) Blair of Hartsville, TN; Mr. Glenn Blair of Castalian Springs, TN; Mr. Junior (Joy) Blair of Hartsville, TN, and Mr. Harold (Janice) Blair of Carthage, TN; and a sister, Mrs. Lorene Blair Bogle of Hartsville, TN.  Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2005, conducted by Bro. Jackie Dillehay. Honorary pallbearers were: grandchildren, great-grandchildren and employees of Mueller Refrigeration Co. Active pallbearers were: Ray Spears, Roy "Hoppy" Scruggs, Tracy Langford, Jamie Hamlet, Ferrell Carman and Jackie Dillehay. Interment was in the Hartsville Memorial Garden.

Funeral services for Nordean Carver, age 65, of the Enon Community in Macon County, TN were conducted Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN with E.C. Meadows officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Carlisle, Josh Copas, Jeremiah Copas, David Carver, Jack Osgathorp, Michael Biddix. Interment followed in the Jenkins Cemetery.  Nordean Carver passed away Thursday evening, July 14, 2005 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, TN.  A native of Macon County, TN, he was the son of the late Chester and Dassie Huffines Carver. On July 1, 1960, he was married to the former Patsy Townsend, who survives. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Carver. He was a farmer and a Vietnam Veteran.  Survivors besides his wife include: brother, Charles (Betty) Carver, Old Hickory, TN.  Arrangements by the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Funeral services for Dorothy Gertrude York Cherry, age 88, of Lebanon and formerly of the Union Hill Community in Clay County, TN, were conducted Friday, July 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Elder Charles Allen Gentry officiating. Her family and friends served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Union Hill Cemetery.  Mrs. Cherry passed away Wednesday morning, July 13, 2005 at the Quality Health Care in Lebanon, TN.  A native of Clay County, TN she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Dona Bean York. She was married to Andrew Cherry, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Avery Cherry; sisters, Dovie Savage and Lassie York; brothers, Cordell & Cortez York and Clarence Davis. She was a homemaker.  Survivors include daughter: Faylen Wiles, Hartsville, TN, sons & daughters-in-law: Gary & Judy Cherry, Gordonsville, TN, Ronnie & Susie Cherry, Madison, TN, David & Peggy Carver, Lebanon, TN, Murriel Cherry, Oak Grove Community, sister: Mae Smith, Union Hill Community; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren.  Arrangements by the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN

Nubie Jewell Dennis, age 90, of Willowlake Road in Portland, TN, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005. Funeral services were at 2:20 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Taylor and Bro. Kevin Graham officiating. Interment was in Rippy Cemetery.  She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Graves and the late Rossilla Graves. She was united in marriage to the late Kenneth Dennis. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sandra & Ken Graham of Portland, TN; grandchildren Kevin & Julie Ann Graham of Gallatin and Kelly & Criss Graham of Gallatin; and two great-grandchildren:  Arrangements by Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home, West-moreland.

Janice Proffitt Doss, 57, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005 at her residence. The Barren County, Kentucky native was a daughter of the late Alvin E. Proffitt and Anna Lou Runner Proffitt, a member of White Oak Church of Christ and a sales associate at Wal-Mart in Lafayette. On October 23, 1970, she was united in marriage to Christopher Warren Doss.  She is survived by her husband, Christopher Warren Doss, Lafayette, TN; 2 brothers, Wilson Proffitt and Tommy Proffitt, both of Glasgow, KY; a sister, Marilyn Proffitt Forbis, Hopkinsville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Delores Burns.  Funeral services for Janice Proffitt Doss were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette with Mike Rogers officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bobby Halliburton, age 62, of Savannah, Georgia, died Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center while undergoing surgery for an aneurysm. He had become ill July 4th while on vacation at his Red Boiling Springs farm.  Services were conducted by Eld. Ricky Wilson on Saturday afternoon from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 1:00 p.m. services, burial was in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.  Mr. Halliburton was married to Linda Lou Johnson of Red Boiling Springs on March 21, 1964. He was the third of five children of the late Dow Eugene "D.E." Halliburton who died in 1993 and the late Nancy Ellen Franklin Halliburton who died in 1995. He was born in the Buffalo Community of Smith County, TN on January 1, 1943.  Mr. Halliburton was a graduate of the class of 1961 at Smith County High School. He graduated from Tennessee Technolog-ical University in Cookeville in 1965 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation he began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah, Georgia. He provided designs on many projects including the Savannah River, dam's at lake Russell and lake Hartwell and the St. Stevens hydro-energy power plant in South Carolina.  Mr. Halliburton founded and owned Halliburton Builders in Savannah and built upscale custom homes. He was a member of the Home Builders Association of Savannah.  Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-one years is a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Janet; three grandchildren, Darby and twins Abby and Kerry Halliburton; a sister, Barbara Acuff and husband, Milton of Buffalo; three brothers, Royce Halliburton and wife Peggy of Buffalo, Billy Halliburton and wife Karen of Defeated Creek, and Charles Halliburton and wife Andrea of Sparta.  Sanderson of Carthage, directors.

Mildred Hauskins, 78, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away late Monday, July 4, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Allen County, Kentucky native was born Wednesday, January 5, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert Lucian Wagoner and Clara Bonds Wagoner. She was a homemaker and member of Maple Grove General Baptist Church in Allen County. She was married to the late Idle Hauskins.  Survivors include 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Shelby and John Keller, Lafayette, TN; Shirley Jones and her companion, Johnny Doolin, Lafayette, TN; a step- son, Lonnie Hauskins, of the Pleasant Valley Community; a brother, Larry Wagoner, Lafayette, TN; and a sister, Kathy Slayton, Lafayette, TN; 4 grandchildren, Josh Jones, Clint Mabry, April Jones, and Tabitha Sutton; 5 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 step great great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Lurene Weems and a brother, Billy Wagoner.  Funeral services for Mildred Hauskins were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Keen officiating. Burial was in Union Chapel Cemetery in Allen County, Kentucky. Pallbearers were Todd Wagoner, Bill Wagoner, Charlie Harrison, Doug Harrison, Chris Sutton, and Wayne Talbott.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN in charge of arrangements.

Johnnie E. Jenkins, 79, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005.  He is survived by his wife, Helen Shrum Jenkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Joe Sanders, Pam and Bob Adair; sister, Jo Ella Minchey, Lafayette, TN; granddaughter, Melissa (Jeff) Watrous; two great-grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Evie Shrum, of Lafayette, TN. He was a retiree of the Ford Glass Plant.  Funeral services for Johnnie E. Jenkins were conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN with Bro. Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Shrum, David Shrum, Terry Gann, Rick Gann, David Minchey and Jack Minchey. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Watrous, Raymond Carver, and Wesley Rankin. 

 

Mr. Cordell Kemp, an accomplished banjo player, a longtime resident of the Difficult Community, died at the age of 96 at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning, July 15, 2005 at the Smith County Health Care Center in Carthage.  Services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. by Bro. Jackie Dillehay. Burial was in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.  His wife of almost sixty eight years, Maggie Olean Canter Kemp, died on January 11, 1999. They were married on Valen-tine's Day, 1931.  They were preceded in death by a son, Robbie Kemp, on December 12, 1985 and by three grandchildren, Stanley and Jon Kemp and Angela Denise Kemp.  Born Henry Cordell Kemp in the Friendship Hollow at Defeated Creek, he was one of five children and the only son of the late James Stanton "Jimmy" and Sweet Sally Toney Kemp.  Four sisters preceded Mr. Kemp in death, Albertine Brooks, Opal Davis, Flossie Brooks, and Mary Belle Gregory. Mr. Kemp was a retired farmer and was a former custodian at the Defeated Creek Elementary School.  He was of the Primitive Baptist belief.  Surviving is a son, Bobby Kemp and wife Ruth of Lafayette; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  Sanderson of Kempville in charge of arrangements

Nadine Jones, 78, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Thursday, March 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Robert Leonard (Jack) Dozier and Ruth Stinson Dozier. She was a homemaker and member of Brattontown Missionary Baptist Church for many years. On February 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Malon Jones.  She is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Malon Jones, of Lafayette, TN; a son and daughter in law, Wendell and Jennifer Jones, of Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Jody Wallace, Andersonville, TN; Donna and Rickie Carter; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Jean Dozier; a sister-in-law, Winnell Dozier; a brother-in-law, Zollie Claiborne, all of Lafayette, TN; 8 grandchildren, Kristie (Bill) Cothron, Erick Carter, Kim (Rob) Fitzgerald, Ashley (Jamie) Towe, Emily (Frits) Haverkamp, Amanda (Walter) Mayes, Julie Wallace, and Melissa Wallace; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Dozier and a sister, Inez Claiborne.  Funeral services for Nadine Jones were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Funeral services for Blanche Belle Moss, age 82, of Red Boiling Springs, TN were conducted Wednesday, July 20, 2005, 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN with Jimmy Cook and Gary Wilder officiating. Pallbearers were Ricky McClure, Eddie Jenkins, Chris West, Kevin Bart, Matthew Wilder, Bill Moss. Interment followed in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.  Mrs. Blanche Belle Moss passed away Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2005 at Knollwood Manor in Lafayette, TN.  A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Pleas and Aynell Gulley McClure. She was married to Jessie Belle and Comus Moss, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Leon and Paul McClure. She was retired from Genesco with 40 years of service and was a member of Bennett Hill Church of Christ.  Survivors include daughters, Linda (Jerry) Mallicote, Madison, Brenda (John) Chapman, Mt. Juilet; son, Harold (Kathryne) Belle, Red Boiling Springs; grandchildren, Belinda Bart, Columbia, Michelle Cook, Tampa, FL, Chris West, Hermitage; three great-grandchildren; sister, Billie York, Mt.
