Terry Wayne Binion, 38, of the Storeytown Community, passed away Friday, July 1, 2005 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center in Jamestown, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born August 14, 1966, the son of Jerry Wayne Binion and Minnie Frances McClard Binion, and was a self-employed carpenter and contractor. On September 22, 1990 he was united in marriage to Donna Farley Binion. He is survived by his wife, Donna Farley Binion, of the Storeytown Community; 2 daughters and their boyfriends, Ashley Dyer and Anthony Rogers, of the Storeytown Community; Erica Dyer and Tracy Blair, Hartsville, TN; a son and his girlfriend, Eric Binion and Kelli Overton; a son John Kurtis Hesson, all of the Storeytown Community; his father, Jerry Binion, Lafayette, TN; his mother, Minnie Frances Binion, Lafayette, TN; a sister and brother-in-law, Susie and S. Sgt. Royce Kirby, Lafayette, TN; a sister-in-law, Nyoka Atkins, of the Storeytown Community; a granddaughter, Mahaley Shoulders, Hartsville, TN; and two grandchildren on-the-way; a niece, Rian Kirby; and two nephews, Jason Kirby and Holden Atkins. He was preceded in death by a niece, Amber Hesson. Funeral services for Terry Wayne Binion were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, July 4, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Bennett and Eld. Royce Key officiating. Burial was in Green Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Steve Steenbergen, Casey Oldham, Jerry (Mooney) Johnson, Mark Spivey, Jimmy Law, Bobby Wood, Jackie Smith, and Danny Brummett. Layon Brown, age 90, of Gallatin passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005. A Sumner County native, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Robert Walter Brown and Mary Eva Martin Brown. He was a graduate of Portland High School and the Bowling Green Business College. He married the former Pat Jane Reed on May 10, 1941, who preceded him in death in February 2002. After graduating from Officer Candidate School as a first lieutenant with the U.S. Army, he began his tour of duty in Belgium and France with his division being the first to invade German soil, it was there where he was awarded the Bronze Star for the Battle of St. Lo and the Battle of the Bulge. After serving as Sumner County's Court Clerk from 1946 to 1958, he began a career in banking where he was a principal partner in three banking institutions in Sumner County. He was a charter member of College Heights Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion, VFW, a Mason with the Fairfield Lodge and a Shriner. He is survived by daughters, Marilyn Brown Gilley (Ronnie), Gallatin, Delane Vester (David), Lafayette, Trena Reed Brown, Hermitage; sister, Freeda West, Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Thomas David Vester (Amanda) Lafayette, Tyler Daniel Vester, Lafayette. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from Alexander Funeral Home chapel with interment in Crestview Memorial Park with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Brown, Don Vanatta, Brian Reed, Dennis Reed, Gary Branham, Dan Jenkins, David Gregory, Duane DeVault and Jim Milliken. Alexander Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services for Debbie Jo Hooten Collins, age 43, of the Hermitage Springs Community in Clay County, TN, were conducted Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Gene Carter, O'Neal Huffines and Stan Hensley officiating. Pallbeareres were Eric Hooten, Rocky Hooten II, Derrick Hooten, Brad Knight, Eric Caldwell, Tommy Newman, Clay Whitaker, Jeff Collins. Interment followed in the Clark Cemetery. Debbie Jo Hooten Collins was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday evening, July 2, 2005 at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina. A native of Sumner County, TN, she was the daughter of Joe and Sybile Raines Hooten of the Goosehorn Community. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Samantha Hix. On May 28, 1994, she was married to Phillip Collins, who survives. She was a logger and a member of North Springs Church of Christ. Survivors besides her husband and parents include daughters: Kina (John) Pruitte, Goosehorn Community, Alicia (Sammy Joe) Atkins, Red Boiling Springs; sister, Penny (Randall) Goad; brothers, Ricky (Laura) Hooten, Rocky (Debbie) Hooten, Patrick Hooten, all of the Goosehorn Community, Mike (Linda) Hooten, Lafayette; granddaughter, Olivia Atkins; grandson, Jacob Atkins, both of Red Boiling Springs; father and mother-in-law, Delbert & Patricia Collins, Hermitage Springs. Carrie Dean Copas, 65, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Westmoreland, Tennessee native was born Friday, October 6, 1939 a daughter of the late Odell Summers and Pauline Morris Summers. She was a homemaker and member of Lafayette First Baptist Church. On October 25, 1958 she was united in marriage to Charles Copas. She is survived by her husband, Charles Copas; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila Copas and Larry Jones, all of Lafayette, TN; Jackie Copas, of the Sunrise Community; 4 sisters, Iva Gentry, Mary Summers, and Sarah Likens, all of Gallatin, TN; and Sue Davenport, Portland, TN; a special friend, Deanna Siano, of New Jersey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Odell Summers, Jr., Harry Ray Summers, and Jimmy Lee Summers, and a sister, Peggy Faye Summers. Funeral services for Carrie Dean Summers Copas were conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Anthony Hale officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery. Zethra Johns, age 90, of Gallatin, passed away Friday, July 1, 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ollie Chandley; husband, Delbert William Johns; sons, John Clinton Johns, Harold Johns, Darrell Johns; granddaughter, Rebecca Chapman. She is survived by daughter, Linda Wedd (Edgar), Gallatin; sister, Cecelia Leath, Greenville, IN; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 3, 2005, 2 p.m., from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Hale and Bro. Tom Carter officiating. Interment was in Rocky Mound Cemetery. Grandchildren and nephews served as pallbearers. Alexander Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mamie Estelle Smith, 74, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Friday, July 1, 2005 at her residence. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Monday, August 3, 1925, a daughter of the late Henry Burns and Mary Blankenship Burns, and was a retired employee of Carter Automotive. On December 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to R. E. "Buster" Smith, who preceded her in death on August 29, 1998. She is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Thompson; Judy and Willie Ray; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Lillie Smith, all of Lafayette, TN; Earl Junior and Joyce Smith, Westmoreland, TN; 5 grandchildren, Juanita Hale and her mother, Willa Dean Smith, Barry Ray, Penny Clark, Willie Ray, Jr., and Adam Ray; and several great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Edith Smith, 5 brothers, John Burns, Lester Burns, Logan Burns, Roy Burns, and Ed Burns; a sister, Marie York; and a great-grandson, Nathan Jared Smith. Mrs. Rebecca Baker Robinson, age 84, of Carthage, TN, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Mrs. Robinson was born Rebecca Swope Baker on Sept. 7, 1920 in Carthage, Smith County, TN, the daughter of the late Lucy Swope and Charles S. Baker, Sr. A brother, Charles S. Baker, Jr. and a sister, Dorothy Gilbert Petty preceded her in death. She grew up in Carthage and was a 1940 graduate of Smith County High School. She was married on March 19, 1938 to Gerald Brown "Brownie" Robinson, legendary high school football coach in Middle Tennessee and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1986. Their son, Jerry Mason Robinson, preceded them in death on May 30, 1971. She lived in several different towns during the years before returning to Smith County. Mrs. Robinson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Shirley Robinson of Watertown, TN; daughter-in-law, Donna Sue Robinson of Hendersonville; four granddaughters, Tracey Robinson of Hendersonville, Kelli Webster and husband, Gavin of Watertown, Julie Rowland and husband, Tim of Liberty, TN and Stacey Barrett and her husband, Cory of Murfreesboro, TN; a great-grandson; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances and Kenneth Gibbs of Carthage. Graveside services and interment were held at Smith County Memorial Gardens in Carthage on Sunday, July 3, 2005 with Dr. Larry Locke officiating. Bass Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, directors.
Mrs. Carolyn Frances Stafford, age 58, of Westmore-land, TN, passed away Tuesday morning, June 28, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN. She is survived by her spouse, Bobby Gulley, Westmoreland; three sons, Donald Stafford, Eligia Stafford, both of Lafayette, Allen Stafford, Bethpage; three daughters, Betty Stafford, Virginia Stafford, both of Westmoreland, Teresa Newland, Lyles, TN; two step-sons, Randy Gulley and Bobby Bush, both of Westmoreland; one step-daughter, Amanda Bush, Red Boiling Springs; 26 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gerelene Johns, Hartsville, Alice Netherton, Lafayette, Dorothy Christian, Defeated, TN. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2005, 4 p.m., conducted by Bro. Steven Swords. Pallbearers were Buddy Allen Johns, Junior Eades, Allen Sullivan, Brandon Stafford, Nolan Stafford, Randy Gulley, Teddy Graves, Eddie Shrum and Elvis Powell. Interment was in Hartsville Cemetery.
