Claude Beard was born July 11, 1916, son of Turner and Bell Donnell Beard, and departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the age of 88 yrs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vallie Putty Beard, and brothers, Foster and Lawrence Beard.  Claude is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, T.C. and Judy Donoho Beard; step grandsons Tony and Stacy Gann; step great grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Dayna Gann, Tyler and Tanner Gann; step great great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Emma Jones; nephews, Glenn (Joy) Beard and William Beard; niece, Virginia Ann (William) Poston; many other relatives and friends.  Services were Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Hunter Funeral Home with Elder Thomas Hart officiating. Interment at Poplar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Robert "Red" Blackwell, Sr., age 88, of Lafayette, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.  He was preceded in death by a son, David Baxter Blackwell; and two daughters, Helen Marie Blackwell and Eddar Mai McCarter.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margie Blackwell, Lafayette; a son, Mr. Robert (Juanita) Blackwell, Jr., Hartsville; four daughters, Mrs. Frances Beal, Hartsville, Ms. Juanita Lawhorn, Madison, Ms. JoAnn Saddler, Westmoreland, Ms. Christine Locke, Castalian Springs, TN; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home Friday, June 3, 2005, 2 p.m., conducted by Elder Doug Curtis. Pallbearers were Curt Lampley, Ashley Locke, Ricky Parker, Dewayne Ballard, Timmy Moore, P.J. Parker, Bill Blackwell and James Dickens. Interment was in Porter Cemetery.

Vassie L. Burgett, age 96, of Walnut Street, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Friday, May 27, 2005.  Funeral services were held Monday, May 30, 1:00 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Gene Heath. Burial was in Shrum Cemetery.  She was the daughter of the late Bob Moss and Mattie Shrum. She was married to Cordell Burgett, who also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.  Survivors include a son, Doulgas (Jerry) Burgett of Inglis, FL; a sister, Mary Adean Moss of Westmoreland; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Oda Cherry, age 76, of Whitley Hollow Road, Red Boiling Springs, TN, formery of the Hermitage Springs Community, were conducted Monday, June 6, 2005, 3 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Jimmy Cook officiating. Pallbearers were Fred Spears, Willis Deckard, Keith McDonald, Mark Tirjan, Dale Vaughn, Gary Brissett. Interment followed in Whitley Cemetery.  Oda Cherry passed away Saturday morning, June 4, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette.  A native of Clay County, TN, he was the son of Sarah Ethel Cherry. He was married to the former Verda Gertrude Miller, who preceded him in death on April 12, 1987. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ina Whitley. He was a farmer.  Survivors include devoted companion, Robbie Cherry and her children, Alice & William Cherry, all of Red Boiling Springs; nieces, Brenda (Keith) McDonald and Kathy (Robert) Birdwell, all of Lafayette, Glenda (Mark) Tirjan, Red Boiling Springs.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs.

Mr. J. D. Clark, age 77, of Clark Hollow Road, Westmore-land, TN, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 1:00 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. James Sadler and Bro. Guthrie Gregory officiating. Burial was in Rippy Cemetery.  He was the son of the late Virgil Garland Clark and Lillie May Rippy. He was married to Dorothy Boren Clark of West-moreland, who survives. He was retired from Sumner County Highway Dept.  Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Larry (Carolyn) Clark and Billy Clark, all of Westmoreland; a sister, Jewell Graves of Westmoreland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Cohen Denson, 61, of the Westside Community, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, October 8, 1943, a son of the late Hargis Denson and Rachel Williams Denson, and was a truck driver. On August 31, 1965, he was united in marriage to Linda Foree Denson.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Denson, of the Westside Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Randy McCormick, of Lafayette, TN; 4 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Raymond Crossfield and Melvin Denson, both of Lafayette, TN; Paul and Penny Denson, Clarksville, TN; Terry and Shanna Denson, of California; seven sisters, Frankie Foree, of Mississippi; Becky Saxton, Lebanon, TN; Ann Gregory, Corinne Wilder, and Zandael Coulter, all of Lafayette, TN; Ina Hoskins and Jewell Weems, both of Hendersonville, TN; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services for Cohen Denson were conducted at 3 PM Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Kay Gammon, 56, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Friday, June 3, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The Ohio native was born Sunday, November 28, 1948, a daughter of the late Louis Edward Scherer and Margaret Spalding Scherer, and was a homemaker.  She is survived by her husband, Tommy Gammon, of Lafayette, TN; and a brother, Thomas E. Scherer, of Ohio. Funeral services for Mary Kay Gammon were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Gammon officiating. Maybelle Hayes, 84, of Cadiz, Kentucky, and formerly of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Sunday, August 22, 1920, a daughter of the late Joe Herald and Ada Walton Herald, and was a homemaker. She was married to the late Marvin Hayes.  She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jasper Joe and Doris Hayes, of Cadiz, Kentucky; and a grandson, Robin Joe Hayes. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Ray, Jimmy, Eugene, and Tom Herald, and sisters, Essie Mae Herald, Lorene Parker, and Carrie Casteel.  Funeral services for Maybelle Hayes were conducted at 10 AM Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Kenneth Holland, age 73, of the Bagdad Community in Smith County, was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 3:00 p.m. from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home conducted by Edward L. Anderson. Burial followed in Holland Family Cemetery in the Bagdad Community.  He was born May 23, 1932,a son of the late Bud Chester Holland and Bebe Witcher Holland. A brother, Duard Holland, preceded him in death. He was a member of Bagdad Church of Christ.  Surviving is a special friend and caregiver, Sue Angel, of Carthage; four children, Linda Norman and husband Mike of Phoenix, AZ, Janie Kirby and husband Ricky of the Defeated Creek Community, Glen Holland and wife Brenda of Gainesboro, Cynthia West and husband Richard of the Defeated Creek Community; sister, Dorothy Ragland of Gallatin; brother, Larry Holland and wife Linda of Goodlettsville; six grandchildren.  Sanderson of Kempville, directors.

Mr. Clarence "Kitty" Huntsman, age 86, of Tunnel Road, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005.  Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, 11:00 a.m., at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. John Allen Graves, Bro. Robert Thurman, and Bro. Marion Rogan officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery. Family and friends served as pallbearers.  He was the son of the late Rev. Robert Huntsman and Emily Creasy. He was married to Eunice Cannon Huntsman of Westmoreland, who survives. He was a retired school bus driver with the Sumner County Board of Education, an auto mechanic and former employee of Western Auto in Westmoreland, and a member of Providence General Baptist Church.  Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Sammy Lee Huntsman and Gary Bruce Huntsman, both of Westmoreland; two daughters, Patsy (W.G.) Gulley of Lafayette and Dorothy (Allan) Atmore of Gallatin.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Everett, Woodson, Virgil and Jessie Huntsman, a half-brother, Charlie Huntsman, and a half-sister, Annie Brown; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

Ollie D. Jent, 87, of the Red Hill Community in Allen County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Westmoreland Care and Rehab in Westmore-land, Tennessee. The Allen County, Kentucky native was born Sunday, September 23, 1917, a son of the late Arthur Jent and Jo Anne Cox Jent. He was a retired farmer and member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Butrum Jent, a resident of Westmoreland Care and Rehab; 2 step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Jervis and Barbara Bradley, Lafayette, TN; Jerry and Wilma Bradley, Portland, TN; a brother, Luther Jent, Denver, Colorado; a sister, Lois Pharris, of the Underwood Community; 7 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services for Ollie D. Jent were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Joe Tom Stinson officiating. Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Randy Jones, Lorne Wyatt, Roger Jent, Richard Jent, Mike Jent, Ryan Jent, and Jervis Bradley. Charlie Wilson Love, age 88, of Rogersville, AL and formerly of Westmoreland, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2005.  Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, 2005, 2 p.m. at Eulia General Baptist Church, with Bro. Carl Scruggs officiating. Burial was in Eulia Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Wayne Allen Morgan, Thomas Morgan, Mark Morgan, Chris Kelly, Steve Johns, John Howell.  He was the son of the late Martin and Pearl Love. He was married to Eva Selma Love, who also preceded him in death. He was retired office manager at Genesco Shoes, Charter Deacon at First General Baptist Church in Gallatin, 50-year member of King Solomon Lodge in Gallatin and a member of Scottish Rites.  Survivors include a daughter, Gail (W.A.) Morgan, Rogersville, AL; sister, Lillian Overton of Westmoreland; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

Ralph L. Morton, age 70, of Fleet Road, Adolphus, KY, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, 2005, 2 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home. Interment was in Sumner Memorial Mausoleum.  He was the son of the late Paris Morton and Onnie Hill. He was married to Shelia Cook of Adolphus, KY, who survives. He was a retired semi driver for Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo, IN after 35 years of service.  Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Donna (John) Sharpless of Greentown, IN, Teresa (Mark) Engle of South Dakota; brother, William Elmo Morton of Hemlock, IN; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mr. Mark C. Smith, age 44, of 3032 Tunnel Road, Westmore-land, TN, and formerly of Byrdstown, TN, passed away Monday, May 23, 2005 at Kindred Hospital in Nashville, TN.  Mark C. Smith was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 1, 1961.  Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jo Smith of Westmore-land; mother and step-father, Mae and Dewey Williams of Pall Mall, TN; four brothers, Daniel and wife, Carolyn, Lynn and wife, Alexia, Randy and wife, Beth, all of Byrdstown, TN, Charles and wife, Karen, of Jamestown, TN; step-daughter, Amy Bell and husband, Stephen, of Westmoreland; step-son, Kerry Wilson and wife, Jennifer, of Westmoreland; step-sister, Judy Parragin and husband, Dennis, of Greensburg, KY; five step-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Thursday, May 26, 2005, 1 p.m. from the chapel of Byrdstown Crestlawn Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Cross, Bro. Donnie Shelley and Bro. Leon Graves officiating. Burial was in Williams Chapel Cemetery in Pickett County, TN.  Byrdstown Crestlawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Mrs. Frances Spears, age 73, of Rainbow Circle, Westmore-land, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005.  Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 27, 2 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Curtis and Bro. Ronnie Harrison officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.  She was the daughter of the late Vernie Linville and Eula Borders. She was married to James Red Spears of Westmore-land, who survives. She was retired from Ben Franklin Store.  She is survived by a son, Tim (Chena) Spears, Westmoreland; a daughter, Pam (James) Perry, Adolphus, KY; three brothers, Eddie Linville, Westmoreland, Bill Linville, Bowling Green, KY, Donnie Linville, California; and two grandchildren.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

 

James Leo Veach, 61, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. The Battle Creek, Michigan native was born Saturday, September 4, 1943, a son of the late James Louis Veach and Ruth Edna Shumaker Veach. He was a truck driver for Venture Express until becoming disabled.  He is survived by his wife, Betty Hester Veach, of Lafayette, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Russell Baker, of Michigan; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, William Veach, of Michigan; James Lee and Vicki Friddle, with the United States Air Force, in Spokane, Washington; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Ann and Peter Harrigan, Manchester, Connecticut; and 6 grandchildren.  Funeral services for James Leo Veach were conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, June 6, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev.
