| William Earl Akin, age 73, of Franklin Road, Scottsville, KY, passed away Monday, February 21, 2005. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 24, 11 a.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland, conducted by Bro. Jerry Gammons. Burial was in Siloam Cemetery. Mr. Akin was the son of the late Will and Bessie Wix Akin. He was married to Rosalie Carter Akin of Scottsville, who survives. He was a self-employed restaurant owner, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW 5712 in Scottsville. Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Eddie Akin of Gallatin, Randy Akin of Smyrna; two daughters, Vickie Mann of Franklin, KY, Catherine Smith of Scottsville, KY; three sisters, Lorine Burdine of Indianapolis, Betty Rexroat of Mooresville, IN, Katherine Johns of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Gregory, Erma Meador and Willie Mae Burdine; brothers, S.G. Akin, Ora Akin, Leslie Akin, Luther Akin, Tommy Akin, Ernestt Akin, Jessie Akin and Hillary Akin. Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements. |
Bernice Andrews, 84, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, August 6, 1920, a son of the late Bud Andrews and Dolly Elizabeth Hauskins Andrews. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church and a retired employee of the State Highway Department. On August 16, 1940 he was united in marriage to Dorothy White Andrews. He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Dorothy White Andrews; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jeff Ashworth; Conchita and Jerry Gregory; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Eld. Walter and Debbie Andrews; Ricky and Pat Andrews, all of Lafayette, TN; a sister, Hattie Crowder, Hendersonville, TN; 9 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Andrews, a grandson, Chad Marr, and a step-great-granddaughter, McKynzie Rayne Ashworth. Funeral services for Bernice Andrews were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Ricky White and Eld. Floyd Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Jordan Andrews, Dustin Marr, Wayne White, Dwight Crowder, Radford Spivey, and Ryan Dickens. Funeral services for Henry Carter, age 85, of Red Boiling Springs, were conducted Friday, February 25, 2005, 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with E.C. Meadows officiating. Pallbearers were Kenneth Smith, Jimmy Knight, Tommy Spivey, Tony Russell, John Cook and Fay Etheridge. Interment followed in the John L. Clark Cemetery in Gainesboro with Military Honors. Henry Carter passed away on his 8th birthday, Wednesday morning, February 23, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs. A native of Jackson County, TN, he was the son of the late Will and Maggie Dee Painter Carter. He was married to the former Ruth Garland Fuqua, who preceded him in death on March 6, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Albert and Sid Carter. He was a retired employee with the former Kimball Corporation of Lafayette with 30 years of service, a World War II veteran and a member of the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ. Survivors include daughter, Jayne (Butch) Hinson; son, Wayne Carter, all of Red Boiling Springs; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Emma McCoin, Manchester; sisters-in-law, Ruby and Mary Carter, Gainesboro. Jerry Deering, 65, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, September 8, 1939, a son of the late Jessie Deering and Gladys White Deering, a member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, and a retired construction inspector. He is survived by his wife, Paula Frye Deering, of Lafayette, TN; two daughters and sons-in- law, Fellisha and David Shrum, Lafayette, TN; Aleathea and Jay Murray, Murfreesboro, TN; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Nancy Deering, Lafayette, TN; and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services for Jerry Deering were conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Floyd Ferguson officiating. Lisa Carol Templeton Greene, age 43, of Jackson, TN, formerly of Bethpage, TN, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1, 2005, 1 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. C.L. (Dee) Russell officiating. Burial was in Sumner Memorial Gardens. She was the daughter of James (Jim) Templeton and Sarah Byrd Templeton, both of Gallatin. She was married to Jimmie W. Greene of Jackson, TN, who also survives. Survivors besides her parents and husband include a nephew, Jeffery Bond of Gallatin; brother, Danny Bruce (Linda) Templeton of Lavergne, TN; sister, Pam (Gary) Pickard of Gallatin. | Lonnie Wayne Humes, age 56, of Hartsville, TN, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at his home. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Susan Hargis, Hartsville, Mrs. Janice Ray, Lafayette; two grandchildren; three brothers, James Humes, Bethpage, Earl Humes, Chattanooga, Marc Humes, Lebanon; mother of his children, Carlene Humes. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, 2005, 2 p.m., conducted by Bro. Carroll Carman. Mrs. Dorothy Kemp, age 91, of Pleasant Shade, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Smith County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Services were conducted on Sunday afternoon by Elder Charles Jones from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 1:00 p.m. services, burial was in Sanderson Cemetery in Pleasant Shade. Mrs. Kemp married Curtis Draper Kemp on June 2, 1929. Her husband of 36 years died on February 18, 1966. Born Dorothy Mai Hackett in Pleasant Shade on March 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Hugh West and Myrtle Arthenia Sanderson Hackett. Three brothers, Jack Hackett, former Smith County Sheriff Joe Hackett and an infant precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by two children, Jean Kemp Waters and Ronnie Glenn Kemp. She was a member of Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was employed at Carthage Shirt Corp. from 1955 until her retirement in 1991. Survivors include nine children, Bill Kemp and wife Sue of Martinez, GA, Bob Kemp and wife Sara of Houston, TX, Sandra Bowman and husband Raymond of Graveltown Community, Gail Smith of Carthage, Paul Kemp and wife Paulette of Graveltown, Mary Proctor of Conroe, TX, Roy Kemp and wife Terri of Humble, TX, Mert Cook of Gainesboro, Donna Holder and husband Ronnie of Hartsville; three sisters, Nina Gregory of Pleasant Shade, Lois Sloan of Russell Hill, Blanche Haley of Carthage; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Hartsville, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Trousdale Medical Center in
Hartsville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Elaine
Linville; a brother, Thomas A. Linville; and a sister, Maggie Mai Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katherine Linville, Hartsville; five sons,

in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, 2 p.m.,
conducted by Bro. Norman Hearld and Bro. Gary Drennon. Honorary pallbearers
were his brothers; active pallbearers were Jason, Jeremy, Bryan, Anthony,
Jonathan, Jasper and Chase Linville, Bobby Joe Linville III, Andrew & Eric
Nasvalle, Daniel Deeds and Zack Townsend. Interment was in Hartsville
Memorial Gardens.

A native of Macon County, TN, he was the son of Nannie Evelyn Atkins Loyd of Lafayette and the late Everitte Loyd. He formerly served in the National Guard. Charlie McCarter passed away Wednesday evening, February 23, 2005, at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, TN. A native of Clay County, TN, he was the son of the late Willis G. and Amy Lou Thaxton McCarter. He was married to the former Daisy May Brown, who preceded him in death on April 7, 1990. He was a truck driver for the Vulcan Material in Hermi-tage, TN with 20 years of service. Survivors include daughters, Sandra (Roy) Alcorn, Cindy (Tim) Adams, all of Murfreesboro, TN, Cora McCarter, April (Michael) Jordan, all of Red Boiling Springs; sister, Ruby Walker, Gallatin; 14 grandchildren, one great-granchild. A native of Farmington Hills, MI, he was the son of Donna Kennedy Nelson of
Rockwood and the late Dempsey Miller. He was also preceded in death by his
sister, Tammie Lowery; maternal grandmother, Mary Lou Warner; paternal
grandparents, Dempsey and Geraldine Miller. He previously worked as an edger
at Martin Lumber Company in Baxter, TN. Survivors besides his mother
include daughters, Salena & Cheyenne Miller; fiancee, Stephanie Newberry;
mother-in-law, Judy Hawkins, all of Red Boiling Springs; step-father, Don
Nelson; sister, Angie Pelfrey, both of Rockwood, TN. Arrangements by

| Mr. Edwin Nollner Reese, age 84, of Hartsville, TN, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at Trousdale Medical Center in Hartsville. He was preceded in death by parents, Bailey and Mary Reese. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Iris West Reese, Hartsville; two sons, Michael West (Yvonne) Reese, Castalian Springs, TN, William Dale (Joyce) Reese, Nashville; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Anne L. West. Mr. Reese was in the grocery business for 44 years. He served in World War II as a bomber pilot. He was also on the board of directors of The Bank of Hartsville (Community First) for 23 years and was a member of Hartsville United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Malcolm Patton and Rev. John Purdue. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Floyd Reed, Trousdale Medical Center, Lebanon NHC and Caregivers; active pallbearers were Michael Todd Reese, Carlson West Reese, Brian Peyton Reese, Keith Ford, Robert Wagoner, Ricky Halliburton, Nicky Rittenberry, Joe Dell Miller, Stacy Ann Reese and Mai Lei Reese.
