Mr. Larry Agee, age 52, of Skyline Manor in Carthage, died at 8:40 p.m. Sunday evening, March 6, 2005 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. His service was conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Eld. Stephen Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the Gordonsville Cemetery. Mr. Agee, a Smith County native, was the son of the late James & LeeEtte Webster Agee. Mr. Agee was a 1971 graduate of Smith County High School. He was a former butcher and meat department manager. He was a member of the Cragfont Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Melissa Agee of Gallatin and Beverly Agee of Gainesboro; a sister, Beverly Agee of Gordonsville; brother & sister-in-law, Jerry & Nancy Agee of Chestnut Mound; a granddaughter, Brianna Solomon.
Ms. Laurie Jean Bird, age 46, of Red Boiling Springs passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005. Born in St. Clair County Illinois, she spent the early part of her life in Sarasota Florida and the latter in Point Arena California, moving to Red Boiling Springs in 2000. She was the beloved daughter of Patricia Merode Bird of Red Boiling Springs and the late Ernest James Bird. She was preceded in death by brothers, Patrick Mallory and Mark James Bird. She suffered from a heart and lung condition the majority of her life, but made the most of what she had all her life, never giving up the fight nor the passion to survive. She designed and maintained web pages for many individuals and organizations and attended when she could the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Merode Hartman Bird, and sister, Deborah Suzanna Bird Brabant, both of Red Boiling Springs, and two nieces Heather Marie Bird Melcher, of Punta Gorda, Florida and Thalia Bird of Willits, California. | Keven Scott Hollars, age 41, of Louisville, died Wednesday, March 2, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Services were held at Crafton Funeral Home on Saturday, March 5, 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Winston Roberts officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. A native of Simpson County, he was the son of Walter R. "Jr." Hollars of Lafayette, TN and Linda Bush Bennett of Hendersonville, TN. He was a registered nurse with Frazier Rehabilitation in Louisville. He was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Mary "Nannie" Hollars and Lamona Spears. Survivors include one brother, Robert Darin Wood, Gallatin; step-mother, Helen Hollars, Lafayette; step-father, James Bennett, Hendersonville; best friend, Rob Brown, Louisville; two step-brothers, Charlie Jones and Robert "Bo" Jones; and step-sister, Rita Wilson. |
Funeral services for Mr. Juluis Reed "Poppy" Hudson, age 87, of Gallatin were conducted Saturday, March 5, 2005, 1 p.m. at the Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Jenkins and Bro. Kent Collier officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Chance Simmons, Tim Simmons, Richard Hudson, Bobby Hudson, Gary Ferrell and Calvin Tanksley. Interment followed in Crestview Memorial Gardens with military honors. Mr. Julius "Poppy" Hudson passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was born in Red Boiling Springs, TN on August 20, 1917, the son of the late Vestal Odil and Della Margaret Miller Hudson. Besides his parents, his daughter, Sherie Hudson, and son, Larry Hesson, killed in Vietnam, preceded him in death. He married the former Mary Frances Wilson on November 18, 1955, who survives. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a past member of Gallatin American Legion and was a member of Gallatin First Baptist Church. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in Joelton. Besides his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son, William Hesson Hudson, Gallatin; brother, Vestal "Dick" (Margaret) Hudson, Gallatin; sisters, Virginia Neal, Magnolia, AR, Lucille (Edward) Porter, McKinley, TX; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild. Oscar (Tinker) Reed, age 91, of Rock House Hollow Road, Bethpage, TN, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 8, 2005, 3 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland with Bro. Junior Delk officiating. Interment was in Bethpage Lower Cemetery. He was the son of the late John Lawson Reed and Martha Ann Thurman. He was married to the late Georgia Neal Mince Reed. Survivors include one son, Ralph Reed of Bethpage; one daughter, Sadie Marie Carter of Westmoreland; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Neal Graves; two brothers, Charlie Red and Lawson Wright Reed; and two sisters, Bessie Brooks and Ruby Nell Ladd. Elder J. D. Sanders, 81, of the Siloam Community, passed away early Monday, March 7, 2005 at his residence. The Kentucky native was born Monday, August 13, 1923, a son of the late Roscoe Sanders and Mary Dow Young Sanders. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran of World War II, a retired glass cutter for Ford Glass Plant, where he worked for over 27 years, and a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained a Missionary Baptist Member in October of 1961. He pastored Oak Forest Missionary Baptist Church and Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, both in Allen County, Kentucky, Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Enon Missionary Baptist Church, and Union Missionary Baptist Church all in Macon County, TN, and Dixon Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Smith County, TN. On October 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mable Harrison Sanders. He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Mable Harrison Sanders, of the Siloam Community; 2 sons, Tony Roger Sanders and his wife Odette, of Panama City, Florida; and Ralph Glenn Sanders, of the Siloam Community; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Sanders, Amory, Mississippi; 2 sisters, Myrtle Creasy, Savannah, Georgia; and Earline Peskoran, Cleveland, Ohio; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Richard Sanders, a brother, B. R. Sanders, and a sister, Velma Dillard. Funeral services for Elder J. D. Sanders were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with Eld. Greg Dunham and Eld. Ricky White officiating. Burial was in Siloam Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eric Sanders, Steve Johns, Jeff Sanders, Harold Graves, Jerry Lambert, Jimmy Stinson, and Grady Bullington. Tabatha Slaughter, age 35, of 349 Blunt Ford Road, Adolphus, KY, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005 at her residence. The Allen County, KY native was the owner and operators of Tabatha's Restaurant, a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and YMCA. She was a daughter of Eddie Morris Burnett and Cheryl Joan Turner Tinsley, who survive. She is also survived by her husband, Lanny Slaughter, Adolphus, KY; two sons, Ryan Slaughter and Cody Slaughter, both of Adolphus, KY; one daughter, Rachel Hogan, Adolphus, KY; two step-sons, Noah Slaughter, Adolphus, KY and Jake Slaughter, Glasgow, KY; step-father, Emmitt Tinsley, Scottsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Kristi and Justin Williams, Scottsville; an aunt, uncle and nephew. Funeral services for Tabatha Slaughter were held Tuesday, March 8, 2005, 11 a.m. at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Spurgeon, Bro. Tim Eaton, and Bro. Gary Emberton officiating. Romas Lee (Cotton) Thompson, Jr., age 52, of Old Hwy. 31E, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005. Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, 2005, 11 a.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. C.L. (Dee) Russell and Bro. Pat Eller officiating. Burial was in Bradley Cemetery. He was the son of Romas Lee (Dink) Thompson, Sr. and Lucille Shrum Thompson, both of Westmoreland. He was married to Teresa Sheryl Thompson, who also survives. He operated Thompson Backhoe Service and was a member of Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors besides his parents and wife include a step-daughter, Teresa Leeanne Keen of Oakland, KY. Martha Clark Vanhooser, age 85, of Gallatin, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, 2005, 2 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin with Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was in Crestview Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Scott Ward, Mark Clark, Eddie Ray Tanksley, Michael Tanksley, Jack Spicer, Aaron Spicer. She was the daughter of the late Louis K. Clark and Beulah B. Mosley Clark. She was married to Clyde Vanhooser, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers, John Louis and Hardy Clark; and sisters, Morrell Clark and Mildred Allen. Survivors include brothers, Buford (Reba) Hall, Fresno, CA, Bailey Ray (Doloras) Clark, N. Wayne Witcher, age 69, of 1941 Durham Springs Road, Scottsville, KY, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Allen County, KY native was a logger and attended East Willow Street Church of God. He was a son of the late John Ray Witcher and Ann Lorene Matthews Witcher. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hunt Witcher, Scottsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Mary Lou Witcher, Lafayette, TN, Steve and Sheila Witcher, Scottsville, KY; one daughter, Sandra Davis, Scottsville; step-mother, Ardith Mae Witcher, Scottsville; one half-brother, Andrew "Fummie" Witcher, Scottsville; three half-sisters, Jean Ransom, Sue Payne and Wanda Majors, all of Scottsville;. six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
