Peggy Gene Anderson, 57, of the Wartrace Community passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 at her residence. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Thursday, March 27, 1947 and was a member of the Phillipi Church of Christ and was an assembly worker for Crotty in Gainesboro, TN.  She is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Guffey, Castalian Springs, TN; Dana and Mike Brooks, Adolphus, KY; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Johnnie and Lueann Anderson, of the Wartrace Community; Keith and Mandy Anderson, Gainesboro, TN; her mother, Flossie Rollin, Lebanon, TN; 2 brothers, Kelly Rollin, Carthage, TN; and James Rollin, Westmoreland, TN; 3 sisters, Polly Rollin, Lafayette, TN; Linda Allen and Tina Allen, both of Lebanon, TN; 15 grandchildrenand 8 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services for Peggy Gene Anderson were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Armstrong officiating. Interment was in the Antioch Cemetery in Trousdale County, Tennessee. Pallbearers were Terry Rollin, Jerry Rollin, Kelly Rollin, Ricky Rollin, Clayton Anderson, and Jack Scott.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Dorris Wrather Ballinger, age 86, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005 at University Medical Center.  She was born October 13, 1918 in Shelbyville, TN, a daughter of the late Oscar Lee and Ada Pierce Ballinger. She was a babysitter for 32 years and a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ.  Services were held Saturday, March 19, 2005, 3:00 p.m., at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Barry Keene officiating. Burial was in Wilson County Memorial Gardens.  Survivors include a son, Howard Lee Ballinger of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Christy (Ronnie) Wheeler, Tammy Rose (Larry) Pryor, all of Lafayette, Heidi Cole, Nashville, Phillip Underwood, Florida; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Daisy Murray of Shelbyville.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. Ballinger and daughter, Jean Marie Ballinger Rose. 

Jody Biggs, 31, of the Rocky Mound Community, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The Davidson County, Tennessee native was born Sunday, November 11, 1973, and was self employed.  He is survived by his parents, Red and Brenda Biggs; his companion, Teresa Dever; his maternal grandmother, Lucy Christine Cathey, all of the Rocky Mound Community; 8 brothers, John S. Biggs and Paul Copeland, both of Lafayette, TN; William D. Biggs, Murfreesboro, TN; James Christopher Biggs, of the Akersville Comunity; John Thomas Biggs, Jubal Cain Biggs, and Joshua Asa Biggs, all of the Rocky Mound Community; and Jimmy Long, Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Clara Gayle Biggs, of Lafayette, TN; his companion's children, Patricia Overton, Lafayette, TN; April OâSaile, of the Rocky Mound Community; and Kevin Overton, of Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Biggs and a sister, Jessica Biggs.  Funeral services for Jody Biggs were conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, March 21, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with cremation to follow.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Nellie Roberts Birdwell, age 88, of the Mt. Vernon Community in Macon County, TN, were conducted Saturday, March 19, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Jack Honeycutt officiating. Pallbearers were Don Birdwell, Doug Birdwell, Robert Birdwell, Tyler Birdwell, Kyle Birdwell, and Derik Birdwell. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Red Boiling Springs, TN.  Mrs. Nellie Roberts Birdwell passed away Wednesday evening, March 16, 2005, at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs.  A native of Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Smith and Mary Cherry Roberts. On December 25, 1934, she married Clure Birdwell, who preceded her in death on August 24, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dillard Eugene Birdwell; sister, Stella Wilkerson; and brothers, Herman, Cancel, Guy and Irvin Roberts. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.  Survivors include son, Donald Ray (Louise) Birdwell; 3 grandsons, Don (Jill) Birdwell, Doug (Linda) Birdwell, Robert (Kathy) Birdwell, all of Red Boiling Springs; one great-granddaughter, five great-grandsons and three great-great-granddaughters.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Bevie Carter, 79, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Wednesday, April 15, 1925, a son of the late David Mitchell Carter and Victoria Holland Carter. He was a retired employee of the Macon County Highway Department.  He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kirby Carter, Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Millie and Brian Flynn, White House, TN; Susie Likens, Lafayette, TN; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Wendy Carter; David and Judy Carter, all of Lafayette, TN; a brother, Rusaw Carter, of the Enon Community; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Gordon Glen Carter; 3 sisters, Estelle Roberts, Pearl Holland, and Rosella Carter; and 6 brothers, Johnnie Carter, Tommy Carter, Willie Carter, Donnie Carter, Hildred Carter, and Silas Carter.  Funeral services for Bevie Carter were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Jerry Swindle and Bro. James Warner officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery. Jessie D. Cook, age 82, of Old Hwy. 52, Westmoreland,TN, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2005.  Funeral services were held Sunday, March 20, 2005, 2 p.m., at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Wetsmoreland with Rev. John Barnes officiating. Burial was in Eulia Cemetery with military honors.  He was a son of the late Rufus Obie Cook and Nellie Ford Cook. He was married to Janice Creasy Cook of Westmoreland, who survives. He was a member of VFW, DAV, was a POW in WWII, a WWII veteran, and retired from Alcoa Corp.  Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Roger Cook of Orlando, FL, Steve Cook of Westmoreland; one daughter, Jeanne McDole of Streetsboro, OH; one brother, Obie Cook of Nashville; one sister, Bobbie Jean Spears of Hendersonville; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Vercie Hutcheson and Mildred Williams.  Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Larry Cox, 51, of 2458 Holland Road, Scottsville, KY, passed away Friday, March 18, 2005, at his residence. The Macon County, TN native ws the owner and operator of Cox's Garage, a member of the F.O.P. and a former employee of Scottsville Tire Exchange and Harper Ford Sales. He was a son of the late Leonard Calvis Cox and Lavenia Lois Jones Cox.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Logsdon Cox, Scottsville; three sons, Brad Cox, Ben Mahaney and Rob Pruitt and wife Michelle, all of Scottsville; two daughters, Natalie Groce and husband Troy, Lori Cox and fiance Tony King, all of Adolphus, KY; mother-in-law, Mollie Logsdon, Scottsville; brother, Randall Cox and wife Carolyn, Scottsville; two sisters, Nell Holland and husband William, Judy Patrick and husband Michael, all of Scottsvile; five grandchildren. He was perceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Michael Cox and Bobby Cox.  Funeral services for Larry Cox were held Monday, March 21, 2005, 11 a.m. at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Perdue and Bro. Danny Patrick officiating. Burial was in Allen County Memorial Gardens.

Margaret Scott Croy, 73, a resident of The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, and a long time resident of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. She was a daughter of the late Russell David Scott and Bertha Mae Ward Scott, was a retired secretary for T.V.A., and was also preceded in death by a brother, Howard Scott and two step-sisters.  She is survived by a brother, Russell Scott, Jr., San Antonia, Texas; sisters, Evelyn Bernardi, of Ohio; Pat Phillips and Sandra Lowe, both of Clinton, TN; and Shirley Massingill, Lafayette, TN; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Margaret Scott Croy were conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2005 at Love Funeral Home in Dalton, Georgia with interment in the West Hill Cemetery in Dalton.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN is in charge of all arrangements.

Bobby Gene Dyer, 67, of the Green Grove Community, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky. The Macon County, Tennessee, native was born Tuesday, February 22, 1938, a son of the late Jesse Dyer and Louise Claiborne Dyer, and was a retired construction worker. On October 8, 1955 he was united in marriage to Flossie Sullivan Dyer.  He is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Flossie Sullivan Dyer, of the Green Grove Community; a son, Bobby Gene Dyer, Jr., Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters, Sherry Dyer Hartley, Lafayette, TN; and Valeria Lynn Voiles, Jamestown, TN; 5 sisters, Dorris Martin, Nashville, TN; Annice Jones and Dianne Miller, both of Lafayette, TN; Sue Presley, Hartsville, TN; and Melba Balasubramanian, Dickson, TN; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, J. W. William Earl Graves, age 88, of Moreland Circle, Westmoreland, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2005.  Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, 2005, 2 p.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Andrews and Bro. Eugene May officiating. Burial was in Fairfield Cemetery with military honors.  He was a WWII veteran and retired from Eaton Corp.  He was the son of the late Frank D. Graves and Geneva Calvert Graves. He was married to Pauline Williams Graves in Sept. of 1982 and Jessie Mae Graves in April of 1996, who preceded him in death.  He is survived by a son, Donald Graves of Westmoreland; a step-son, Richard Williams of Westmoreland; a daughter, Shirley Faulton of Westmoreland; a sister, Alta Mai Piper of Gallatin; five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, four great-granchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Peggy Ann Langford, age 61, of Lindsey Hollow Road, Gallatin, passed away March 20, 2005.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 11 a.m. at Anderson & Woodard Funeral Home, conducted by Johnny Tucker and John Langford. Interment was in Bushes Chapel Cemetery.  She was the daughter of the late Willie Odell Love and Eurella Wix Love. She was married to Vernon Rudolph Langford, who also preceded her in death.  She is survived by two sons, John Langford of Gallatin, Vernon Randy (Linda) Langford of Portland; three daughters, Sharlena (Tommy) Lee, Jackie (Mark) Taylor, both of Gallatin; Bobby (Billy) Slayton of Westmoreland; sister, Frances Hayes of Horse Cave, KY; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Lois Ann Pedigo Miller, 54, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005. She was preceded in death by her father, Hillos C. Pedigo.  She is survived by her husband, Robert A. Miller; her mother, Galdis (Ray) Langham; her sons, Randy (Eryn) Crawford, and Jeffrey Crawford; her sisters, Jo Ann Vaughn, Margie Whitehead, and Sallie Judkins; her brothers, Porter Pedigo and Thomas Pedigo; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is survived locally by several cousins.  Funeral services for Lois Ann Pedigo Miller were conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Pettus-Owen & Wood Funeral Home in Nashville with Bro. Mason Andrew Nash, infant son of Adam and Gena Tuck Nash, was born and died Monday, March 14, 2005 at University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tennessee.  He is survived by his parents, Adam and Gena Tuck, of Lafayette, TN; his grandparents, Joe L. Tuck, Lafayette, TN; Vera Tuck, Lexington, KY; Calvin and Joann Nash; Frank and Jackie Cothron, all of Lafayette, TN; and great-grandparents, Joe and Bevie Nash; and Carolyn Shoemake, all of Lafayette, TN.  Graveside services were conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2005 at Macon County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Willie Propes, 68, a resident of The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Thursday, March 5, 1936, a son of the late James Elisha Propes and Christine Williams Propes.  He is survived by 4 sisters and 3 brothers-in-law, Lela Storey; Inez and Randall Williams; Gail and Randy Fleming, all of Lafayette, TN; Estelle and Glen Frye, Portland, TN; a brother, Jerry Propes, of Lafayette, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Austin, and a brother, Lester Propes.  Funeral services for Willie J. Mrs. Ollie Russell, 83, of Lafayette, TN, and a resident of The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, passed away Tuesday morning at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. She was born Monday, February 6, 1922 in Macon County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Bill Reeves and Rosa Lee Aldridge Reeves, was a homemaker and member of New Design Missionary Baptist Church. She was united in marriage in 1944 to James Leamon Russell.  She is survived by her husband, Leamon Russell, of Lafayette, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Eld. Jerry Swindle, of Lafayette, TN; a brother, Donald Reeves, Lenoir City, TN; a sister, Georgie Combs, of Lafayette, TN; 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Linda Sue Russell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Annie Mai Russell, 5 half-brothers, Fred Reeves, Hershel Reeves, Luther Reeves, Mitchel Reeves, and Lerlie Reeves, and 7 half-sisters, Ader Andrews, Ozie Russell, Esble Shrum, Flora Swindle, Vellie England, Opal Reeves, and Nellie Andrews.  Funeral services for Ollie Russell were conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Hank Scruggs, age 52, of Hartsville, TN, died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at his home.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Kay Scruggs.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carol Scruggs, Hartsville; son, Casey Scruggs, Westmoreland; daughter, Heather Scruggs, Hartsville; two grandchildren; parents, Risey and Laura Scruggs, Hartsville; brother, Roy "Hoppy" Scruggs, Hartsville; five sisters, Jean Donoho and Billie Porter, both of Gallatin, Aileen Leath, Lafayette, Cathy Bush and Glenda Scruggs, both of Hartsville; family friend, Tania Leonard.  Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, 2 p.m., conducted by Elder Harold D. Linville and Bro. Chris Crowder. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Upchurch, Barry Linville, Bobby Roddy, Wayne Trammel, Woody Badger, Hartsville Police Dept. and his golfing buddies; active pallbearers were Ferrell Carman, Bill Bradshaw, Steve Burrow, Larry Turnbow, Bill Huffines and Morris Crowder. Interment was in Dixon Springs Cemetery. 

 

Elder Clemons Whittemore, 80, of the Williams Community, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee, native was born Monday, June 16, 1924, a son of the late Jessie Whittemore and Lil Creasy Whittemore. He was a retired farmer and member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained as a Missionary Baptist Minister in 1964. On October 30, 1943 he was united in marriage to Estelle Ragland Whittemore.  He is survived by his wife, Estelle Whittemore, of the Williams Community; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Darrell Whitley, Lebanon, TN; Nancy and Carl C. Fishburn; Debbie and Donnie Patterson, all of Lafayette, TN; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Ramona Whittemore, Lebanon, TN; Keith and Sonja Whittemore, of the Rocky Mound Community; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Clyde Whittemore and J. D. Whittemore.  Funeral services for Elder Clemons Whittemore were conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Harold Dean Linville and Eld. Stacey Troutt officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens.
