Funeral services for Lena Holland Cherry Birdwell, age 70, of Donald Drive, Red Boiling Springs, TN were conducted Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Elder Brad Carver and Elder Terry Austin officiating. Her nephews and friends served as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were Lee Knight, Matt Sutton, Dewayne Cook, Nelson Goad, David Presley and Timmy Crague. Interment followed in Whitley Cemetery.  Mrs. Birdwell passed away Monday afternoon, May 9, 2005 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN.  A native of Macon County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Versie Shaw Holland. On April 4, 1953, she was married to Willie "Bee" Cherry, who preceded her in death on June 12, 1978. She later married Lester "Leck" Birdwell on December 4, 1980, who also preceded her in death on October 29, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carlos "Shorty" Holland and James Holland; sisters, Eva Crague and Naomi Holland. She was a homemaker and a member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors include daughters, Martha (Larry "Pee Wee") Halliburton, Linda (Jeff) Sutton, Mary (Darrell) Braswell, all of Red Boiling Springs; sons, Donald (Suzi) Cherry, Lafayette; sister, Patsy Murray, Red Boiling Springs; brothers, Guy (Rosemary) Holland, Lafayette, Melvin (Merlean) Holland; sister-in-law, Faye Holland, Red Boiling Springs, Genell Holland and Faye Owens, both of Lafayette; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Mr. Clarence "C.W." Davis age 67, of the Difficult Community died Wednesday morning, May 11, 2005 at the Carthage General Hospital following a long battle with Parkinsons disease.  He had resided with his daughter in the Kemp Hollow since 2003.  Services were conducted Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. from the Matthews Funeral Home in Albany, Georgia. Bro. Tommy Brett officiated and burial followed in the Morgan Methodist Church Cemetery in Morgan, GA.  Born Clarence Wayne Davis in Arlington in Early County, Georgia on December 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Clarence Winston Davis and Euna Henrietta Taliaferro Davis.  A brother, Kenneth G. Davis, preceded him in death. On July 8, 1955 he was married to the former Joyce Aurilla Stewart. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1994. Mr. Davis retired in 2002 as a salesman in home improvement products. He was of the Baptist belief.  Surviving are two daughters, Sherre Sapp and husband Robert of Difficult, Brandy Tuten and husband Harvey of Ocoee, Florida; three sons, John Wayne Davis and wife Yvonne of Altamonte Springs, FL, Carl Davis and wife Kathy of Jacksonville, FL, Richard "Rick" Davis of Deltona, FL; sister, Duann Kolbrecki and Mark of Harwood, Maryland; brother, Bill Davis and wife Margie of Pelham, GA; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Bernice Dias, age 88, of the Tanglewood Community was pronounced dead on arrival Saturday May 14, 2005 at the Carthage General Hospital. She died earlier at her Massey Road home.  Services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and burial followed in the Dixon Springs Cemetery. Eld. Billy Joe Shoulders and Eld. James Lawson officiated at the 1:00 p.m. services.  Her husband of sixty eight years Charlie Wilson Dias, retired supervisor of the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation for Smith County, died thirteen days earlier on May 1, 2005. They were married in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on December 26, 1936.  Born Bernice Wilburn in Riddleton on January 28, 1917; she was one of eleven children of the late Howard Dalton and Sally Marshall Richmond Dias. Siblings preceding her in death were Howard Marshall Wilburn, Glasgow and Billy Wilburn and Ruby Wilburn Towns. Mrs. Dias was a longtime employee of the former Carthage Shirt Corporation with over twenty years service. She was a member of the Maces Hill Missionary Baptist Church.  Surviving are three sons, Bobby Dias and wife Peggy of Cato, Julius Dias and wife Nancy of Gallatin, Ray Dias of Lebanon; six sisters, Arah Shoulders of Gallatin, Frances Cox of Hartsville, Modena Nixon of Carthage, Virginia Reed and husband George and Mary Small and husband Joe all of Nashville, Kathleen Boze of Gallatin; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Olga B. Frye, 84, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Friday, May 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Rullie Ragland and Stella Cook Ragland. She was a retired factory worker and a member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. On February 2, 1936, she was united in marriage to Loyd Lee Frye.  She is survived by her husband of over 69 years, Loyd Frye, of Lafayette, TN; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Paula Deering, Lafayette, TN; Melissa and Randy Roark, Washington, North Carolina; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, J.C. and Doris Frye; John D. and Kathy Frye; Jack W. and Brenda Frye, all of Lafayette, TN; a brother, Gene Ragland, Thompson, Georgia; a sister, Estell Whittemore, Lafayette, TN; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry Deering, 3 brothers, Delson, Ordin, and Odis Ragland, and a sister, Hilda Herod.  Funeral services for Olga B. Frye were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. James Ray Lawson officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Charlie Frye, Ricky Frye, Jonathan Frye, Hayden Shrum, Devin Frye, Chad Pedigo, Ethan Pedigo, Danny Duff, Kelton Goodman, and Heath Durham.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Fred Hiett, Jr., age 62, of Days Road, Lafayette, TN, were conducted Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Brother Paul Oldham officiating. Pallbearers were Mickey Bilyeu, Michael Bilyeu, Ryan Kirby, Mike Kirby, Jason Hiett, and Eddie Stankard. Interment was in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park.  Fred Hiett, Jr. passed away Saturday morning, May 14, 2005 at his residence.  A native of Macon County, TN, he was the son of Mabel Williams Hiett of Lafayette and the late Fred E. Hiett, Sr. Besides his fathers, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Troy Smith. He was disabled and a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors besides his mother include: daughter; Beth Smith, Lafayette; son, Barry Hiett, Huntsville, AL; sister, Pamela (Mickey) Bilyeu, Cookeville; brother, Larry (Donna) Hiett, Dickson; half-sister, Shirley Hewitt, Nashville; granddaughters, Ashlyn and Breia Smith both of Lafayette.  Arrangements by the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Lafayette, TN.

Funeral services for Doris Kirby Jenkins, age 63, of Red Boiling Springs, TN were conducted Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 10:300 a.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Donnie Barnes officiating. Her family and friends served as pallbearers. Interment followed in Whitley Cemetery.  Mrs. Jenkins passed away Monday morning, May 9, 2005 at Carthage General Hospital in South Carthage.  A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Dee and Lou Ellen Turner Kirby. On Dec. 17, 1960, she was married to Neal Jenkins, who survives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Kirby. She was the former Assistant Manager at Bill Martin's Cee Bee in Red Boiling Springs wth over 20 years of service and a member of Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ.  Survivors besides her husband include a daughter, Tina (Mark) Young, Nashville; son, Tony Jenkins, Hendersonville; grandsons, Spenser Hunter & Ryker Tope, all of Hendersonville; sisters, Barbara Rushk Cookeville, Mabeline (Kenneth) Carter, Red Boiling Springs, TN.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Mary Ellen Jones, 84, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2005 at The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The Rogersville, Tennessee native was born Monday, April 11, 1921, a daughter of the late Ira Musick and Eva Howe Musick. She was a homemaker and member of Full Gospel House of Prayer.  She is survived by a daughter, Anna Weinantz, Flat Rock, Indiana; 2 sons, Jerry Jennit, Clyde, North Carolina; and James Hill, Biloxi, Mississippi; a sister, Ruth Bales; and 4 brothers, French Musick, Carl Musick, Claude Musick, and Mike Musick, all of Morristown, Tennessee; 3 grandchildren, and her church family.  Funeral services for Mary Ellen Jones were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Whittemore officiating. Burial was in Macon County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Freddy Roark, Bobby Moore, Billy Bandy, Pettie Likens, Danny Hauskins, and Matthew Likens.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Nola Smith Mowell, age 85, of Red Boiling Springs, TN were conducted Thursday, May 5, 2005, 2 p.m. from the chapel of Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Bro. Randy Roper, Bro. Greg McClellan, Bro. Mark Russell and Bro. Tracy Carter officiating. Her family served as pallbearers. Interment followed in Smith Chapel Cemetery.  Mrs. Mowell passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 3, 2005 at her residence.  A native of Campbell County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Jeff & Minnie Linkous Smith. On April 20, 1940, she was married to Rev. Harold A. Mowell, who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1971. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Louie Etheridge. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Community Church.  Survivors include daughters, Carla Etheridge and Minnie Mowell, both of Red Boiling Springs; sons, Ronnie (Linda) Mowell & Don Mowell, all of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Adell Carter Perry, 76, of 6430 3rd Street West, Havre, Montana and formerly of Scottsville, KY died Wednesday, May 11, 225 at her residence. The Sumner County, TN native was a day care giver, homemaker and founding member of Havre Church of Christ. She was a daughter of the late Elmer Gilbert Trammel and Ella Mae Hudson Trammel and wife of the late James Arnett "Jim" Carter and Kenneth R. "K.R." Perry.  She is survived by 3 sons: Pat Carter and wife, Carol Roffe, Pontiac, MI; David Carter and wife, Mimi, Oakfield, Maine; Tim Carter and wife, Rita, Wallingford, KY; 2 daughters: Debbie Cox and husband, Paul, West Haven, Utah; Cathie Bradbury and husband, Bill, Havre, MT; 1 step-son: Kenny Perry and wife, Julie, Paducah, KY; 3 step-daughters: Sharon Gibbs and husband, Tommy; Anita Harrison and husband, Charles; Holly Bennett and husband, Bobby, all of Franklin, KY; 1 brother: Wilburn Trammel, Gallatin, TN; 1 sister: Edith Cliburn, Gallatin, TN; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother: Jerry Trammel.  Funeral services for Adell Carter Perry were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Hodges officiating and burial in Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ Cemetery.

Veltra Clay Russell, 90, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Saturday, November 21, 1914, a son of the late Henry Sidney Russell and Susan Knight Russell. He was a member of Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church and a retired sawmill worker.  He is survived by 2 sister, Olene Jones and Ruby Gregory; a brother, Leamon Russell, all of Lafayette, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Russell, and 3 brothers, Raymond Russell, Willie Russell, and Marvard "Bud" Russell.  Funeral services for Veltra Clay Russell were conducted at 12 Noon, Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Jerry Swindle officiating. Burial was in Drury Cemetery. Family and friends served as pallbearers.  Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, Tennessee was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial services for Buster Shrum, age 67, of Poland, IN, and formerly of Macon County, TN, will be conducted Saturday, May 21, 2005, 11:00 a.m. from the Phillip Anderson & Son Memorial Park in Lafayette with Bro. Troy White officiating.  Mr. Shrum passed away October 23, 2003 at his residence.  A native of Macon County, TN, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Hassie Scurlock Shrum. On June 2, 1979, he married the former Joyce Crady, who survives. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Shrum; and sister, Marie Shrum. He was a meat cutter for Krogers Meat Plant in Indianapolis, IN with 33 years of service and a member of Sycamore Valley Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors besides his wife include a daughter, Stacey Shrum; sons, Timothy and Jeff (Peg) Shrum, all of Indianapolis; sisters, Ruth McDuffy and Noami McMillian, both of Lafayette; three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren.  Arrangements by Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home, Lafayette, TN.
