Gertrude Edith Stokes
A native of Hartford, S.D., she had lived in Birmingham, Ala., for the past three years. A daughter of the late Herman and Ella Schievelbein Webster, she was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, F.C. Stokes; and one brother, Allen Webster.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Hufford of Aurora, Ill., and Nina Goad of Portland; two sons, Ronald Stokes of Rosewell, Ga., and Robert H. Stokes of Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wesley Webster of Hanna, Wyo.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

William J. "Bill" Corbett
A native of Anderson, Ind., he was a son of the late Will L. and Lavina Bevan Corbett, and was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Corbett.
He completed high school in Waukegan, Ill., before moving to the Pittsburgh, Pa., area. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.B.A. degree, he was employed by General Motors, Terex Division, in Hudson, Ohio. From there, he went to South Bend, Ind., where he was employed by White Farm Equipment as plant manager. He then became director of manufacturing, North America, with Massey-Ferguson Industries, Ltd., located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
He came to Athens in 1989 as president of Taylor-Pittsburg Farm Implement Company, where he served until his retirement. He was of the Presbyterian faith and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he served as a squad leader and attained the rank of sergeant first class. He was an avid sports enthusiast and fan of the University of Pittsburgh football team. He spent many seasons coaching little league baseball and hockey and was an active member of VFW Post No. 5146 in Athens and a member of BPOE No. 1927.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Watts Corbett of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and George Heideman of South Bend, Ind., and Linda and Sean Wiesner of Shelburne, Ontario, Canada; one son, William S. Corbett of South Bend, Ind.; three granddaughters, Amanda Heideman, Lindsay Heideman and Veronika Wiesner; two grandsons, Joseph Heideman and Everett Wiesner; one sister-in-law, Frances Corbett of Mansfield, Ohio; one niece; and one nephew.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson, Ind., with full military honors.

A native of Decatur and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Oscar "Tobe" and Marie Farris Brown, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a heavy equipment operator, retired from McKinney Excavating, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Brown and Betty Ghorley; and two brothers, Lester and Ed Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Rose Womac Brown of Riceville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Richard Boyd, and Teresa and Benjamin Jorgenson, all of Athens; one grandson, Blake Jorgenson; one step-granddaughter, Shannon Smith; one step-great-grandson, Cody Smith; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Emmalee and Charlie Breeden of Athens, Mildred and Harold Decker of Riceville, and Pat and Wayne Davis of Madisonville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Barbara Brown, and Jim and Carol Brown, all of Riceville.

Lois Radford Hair

Born May 20, 1931 in Englewood, she was an active member of Dalton First United Methodist Church, serving on the Altar Guild, the United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Northwest Georgia Antique Automobile Club of America, serving presently as an associate editor of the club newsletter and past secretary and board member. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and her grandsons.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jimmie Hair of Dalton, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Donna Hair and Dale and Missy Hair, all of Dalton, Ga.; four grandsons, Landon Hair, Jeffrey Hair, Dallas Hair and Chase Hair; and two sisters, Blanche Cain of Loudon, and Carolyn Armstrong of Etowah.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mac Enfinger and the Rev. James Hughes officiating. Burial followed in West Hill Cemetery.

A native of Hamilton, Ohio and a former resident of Etowah, she was a daughter of the late Plaise and Dana Mae Jones Owens and was a member of Mt. Verd Baptist Church. She had attended Tennessee Temple University and was an R.N. at Woods Memorial Nursing Home.

Inez Frances Scarbrough
Born in the Pinhook community of Polk County and a former resident of the Carlock community near Etowah, she had resided in Oak Ridge for the past seven years. A daughter of the late Fate and Ethia Evans Lowery Scarbrough, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Etowah and had attended Chestuee Baptist Church, where she was a pianist for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lowery Scarbrough; five brothers, Archie Taylor, Frank A. Taylor, R.L. Taylor, Roy G. Taylor and Joe V. Taylor; and three sisters, Edna Wooten, Chassie Stillwell and Anna Reba Ramsey.
Survivors include one brother and sister in law, Jack R. and Margie Taylor of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

A native of Reliance and a resident of Loganville, Ga. for over 20 years, he was a son of the late Carl and Mary Carolina "Callie" Adams King. He was employed by CES Trucking for the past 20 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Lynn King; one sister, Beulah King; and two brothers, Boyd King and Mel Roy King.

Barbara Marie Long
A native of Red Bay, Ala., she spent most of her life in Cleveland, except for the past 11 years when she lived in McMinn County. She was the charge nurse at Sweetwater Nursing Home and a member of the Tennessee Nurses Association. She and her husband enjoyed playing Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus during the holiday season for the residents of the nursing home. She was a daughter of the late Bill Sandeen and was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Lawson.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Long of Riceville; her mother, Angie Sandeen Key of Charleston; two children and their spouses, Anna Marie and Richard Fee of Riceville, and David Paul Lawson and Pete Phillips of Etowah; two brothers, Don Orick of Gilberts, Ill., and Chuck Orick of Las Cruzes, N.M.; two grandchildren, Victoria Marie Fee and Rachel Elizebeth Fee; five nieces; two nephews; her dearest friend, Betty Melton of Cleveland; and several other extended family members.

Gordon Leonard Rose
A native of Tellico Plains, he had resided in Athens since he was one year old and was a son of the late Thelma Rose. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens and was associated with Fox Photo for 35 years, as a photo marketing specialist, and later served with the McMinn County and Polk County Sheriff’s Departments.
Survivors include his wife, Freida Bright Rose of Athens; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Catherine Jones of Nashville, Linda and Carl Fleckner of San Diego, Calif., and Nancy and Silas Biddison of Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Kathy Rose of Hendersonville, and Paul and Karyn Rose of Louisburg, N.C.; nine granddaughters and two spouses, Sarah and Jason Underhill, Rachel and Douglas Murray, Bethany Rose, Victoria Rose, Emily Biddison, Anna Biddison, Kara Rose, Krista Rose and Callie Fleckner; three grandsons and one spouse, Andrew and Stephanie Jones, Matthew Rose and Max Fleckner; one great-granddaughter, Katie Beth Underhill; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert "Shorty" and Cora Goforth Wilson, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Local Union 175 and had recently retired from Dillard Smith Construction Company. He was a lifetime member of Meigs County AMVETS Post No. 90 and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

A native of Gem, Idaho, he had lived in McMinn County for four years and was a previous resident of San Marcos, Calif. A son of the late Benjamin Joseph and Rose McGrath Lalor, he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and had worked for Robison Cutlery.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Ann Humm of San Diego, Calif., Martha Wood of Niota, Donna Leeds of Johnson City, and Lisa Coulter of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Hugh Patrick Lalor Jr., of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Brausen of Moscow, Idaho.
A Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Cummins officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Montebello, Calif.

Glenn E. Richesin
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of Sweetwater V.F.W. Gold Star Post No. 5156, and attended Murray’s Baptist Church of Sweetwater. He was a retired local farmer, owner and operator of Richesin’s Farm and Home Center in Sweetwater, and was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Richesin; and one sister, Joyce Plemons.

Born in Chatten Springs on July 7, 1927, he was a retired river boat captain of 40 years and was Baptist by faith.
His favorite words to family and friends were, "I shall not pass through this world but once, any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect, for I shall not pass this way again."
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jacob and Hattie Ethel Hood Moon; four brothers, James Jacob Moon Jr., Walter Agnew Moon, Harvey Lester Moon and John Austin Moon; two sisters, Margaret Euphemia Kelly and Agatha Elizabeth Moon; and one grandson, Eric Scott Cross.

Francis William Prock
He was the deacon of Rural Vale Baptist Church, a member of Brown Hill Lodge No. 613 and a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Born June 9, 1920, in Monroe County to the late Joseph and Caroline Freeman Prock, he married his childhood sweetheart on May 10, 1946, and was blessed with nine children. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louella and Dahlia; three brothers, John, Edward and Elijah; one sister-in-law, Paralee Webb; and one brother-in-law, Cecil Webb. His new address is Faithful Servant, Obedient Street, Heaven.

A son of the late J.O. and Kate Calhoun Nunley, he was a native of Loudon County and, after coming from Greeneville, had lived in Athens since Nov. 18, 1918. He was a member of Lake View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Mae Cornett Nunley, on July 7, 2003; his first wife, Myrtle Crabtree Nunley; one daughter, Reba Nunley Crabtree; and one son, Paul Nunley. He was an honorary lifetime member of the McMinn County Rescue Squad and was a former member of the Junior Order. After being self-employed for 56 years, he retired in 1970, having owned and operated the Athens Radio Shop for many years in downtown Athens.

She had a giving heart, was loved and will be missed by all.

Frank Stovall
He had lived and worked in Detroit, Mich., for more than 28 years, working at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company, and also for the U.S. Postal Service. He also worked before the war in U.S. government CC camps on various projects, such as building the lake near Mt. McKamy and the building of Watts Bar Dam. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining two Bronze Stars, a Victory Medal and an African-Middle Eastern Ribbon.
He was a member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church in Etowah, and was a member of the Boaz Lodge No. 318, serving as a senior deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Effie Stovall; two brothers, Lester and Floyd "Buster" Stovall; and four sisters, Ida Stovall Jackson, Lillie Mae Stovall-Jackson, Anna Lee Stovall and Thelma Stovall.

She was also a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Armon and Pearl Myers; and one brother, Melvin Myers.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Lucy Brown of Athens; seven stepchildren and three spouses, Calvin and Michelle Walton of Stone Mountain, Ga., Sylvia Walton of Miami, Fla., Greg and Vivian Brown of Nashville, Illya and Kelly Brown of Miami, Fla., Dolphard Walton of Chattanooga, and Gail Brown and Orlando Brown, both of Athens; his only surviving first cousin, Jessie Inman of Sweetwater; one special nephew and spouse, Cottrell and Addy Brown of Surprise, Ariz.; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

For many years, she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Athens. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Athens Eastern Star, a past president of the Athens Women’s Club and a member of the First Families of Tennessee. In 1993, she received the Lincoln Award for outstanding service to the Republican Party. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lynn Small; one sister, Ruby Wallace; one brother, Claude Gregg; and one son-in-law, Robert E. Cook.

William Denney Hutcheson

A native of South Georgia, he had lived in the Polk County area for the past 43 years. He was employed by Mayfield Dairy in Athens for the past 37 years, and had been a member of Bickley United Methodist Church in Bickley, Ga., since childhood. He had visited several churches in this area, most recently Shiloh Baptist Church in Ocoee.
He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed traveling, fishing, working in his barn and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, daddy and granddaddy.
When his sons were growing up, he was active in the Little League programs in Polk County and was a loyal supporter of the Benton Elementary and Polk County High School athletic programs. Recently, he had enjoyed watching his grandchildren participating in some of these programs, always doting over their performances.
He was a son of the late Willie and Hattie Thomas Hutcheson, and was preceded in death by three sisters, Billie Gloria Hutcheson, Orita Hutcheson and Eloise Turner.
Survivors include his wife of almost 43 years, Reba Edwards Hutcheson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dennis Hutcheson of Benton, and Dane and Kourtney Hutcheson of Delano; two grandchildren, Chandler and Whitney Hutcheson, both of Delano; one special brother-in-law, Bill Edwards of Benton; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Willa Mae Lee of Bickley, Ga., and Euclee Westberry and Fleeta and James Thrift of Waycross, Ga.; and many other relatives and friends.

A devoted wife and mother, she had made her home in Riceville since 1963. She was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Lenoir, N.C., to the late Daniel and Julia Shumaker Sparks. She was a member of Riceville First Baptist Church, was a retired employee of Proffitt’s Department Store, where she worked for 17 years, and was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. George Alexander Gardner, on Aug. 3, 1970; and one sister, Ruth Louisa Sparks Huffman of Gastonia, N.C.

Burke of Athens; three daughters, Patricia Moss and Victoria Smith, both of Cleveland, and Vanessa Burke of Athens; 13 grandchildren, James Burke, Quinton Jellum, Alisha Glascoe, Sharon Fleming, Allen Burke, Michael Moore, Pamela Moore, Justin Moss, Daniele Bailey, Angie Bailey, Victor Smith, Damion Burke and Marcus Carey; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marline Woods of Old Hickory, and Jeanette White and Dorothy Lee Bell, both of Athens; two brothers, Houston Harbor of Old Hickory, and Ray Harbor of Las Vegas, Nev.; one aunt, Ollie Godfrey of Savannah; one uncle, Luther Eanes of Savannah; one special daughter-in-law, Teresa Hamal Burke; and special friends, Minnie Long, Louise Massingale, Loretta Ferguson and Tricia McDermott.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Athens with the Rev. Kenneth Scaife officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home.

Rev. Robert Roy Trentham
A native of Madisonville and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Everett and Lucille Watson Trentham, and was a member of Old Pond Hill Baptist Church. He was employed with Athens Regional Medical Center and Sweetwater Hospital for more than 30 years and was co-owner of Trentham’s Florist in Niota. He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one infant sister, Tommy and Nancy Trentham; and one brother, Ross Trentham.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mary Faye Barnette Trentham of Niota; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Kenny Isbill of Cleveland, and Sheri and Wes Scruggs of Sweetwater; family friend, Jeff King of Lenoir City; five grandchildren, Chris, Cayla and Chloe Isbill and Octavia and Anika Scruggs; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Annie and Jim Atkins, Maxine Watson and Brenda and Donald Jenkins, all of Madisonville, and Linda and Benton Rose of Coker Creek; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Shirley Trentham and the Rev. Wayne and Mary Ann Trentham, all of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Cassidy, the Rev. Doug Alexander, the Rev. Vernon Watson and the Rev. Eric Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Foster Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.L. and Edward Barnette, Jamie Rose, Chris, Jonathan and Billy Trentham, Dwight Walden and Gary Atkins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
