She was born on Dec. 8, 1916, in McNairy Co., daughter of the late Bedford E. and Alvia Elizabeth Mathis Young and lived all of her life in Pocahontas. She was an avid gardener, and professional quilter and seamstress. Mrs. Lamberth was the oldest member and a song leader at Pocahontas First Baptist Church. Services were 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Pocahontas First Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Smith and Bro. Sam Howell officiating. Burial was in Essary Springs Cemetery. SHACKELFORD, 62, of Bolivar died Dec. 31, 2000 at the Bolivar General Hospital following a short illness. The husband of Dea Shackelford, who survives, he was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and manager of Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. He was born on Oct. 26, 1938, in Jackson, son of the late Robert Paisley, Sr. and Mary Kathryne Hall Shackelford and lived his live in Bolivar. He was a 1956 graduate of Bolivar Central High School, a 1960 graduate of Vanderbilt University, former field commander of the Vanderbuilt University Band, and a 1963 graduate of John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science. In the 1960‘s and 70 ’s he traveled all over the southeast as a horseshow announcer and showed horses himself in his earlier years. He served in several capacities including president of Shackelford Funeral Directors, Inc. of Bolivar, president of Shackelford Rentals and vice president of Board of Directors of the Shackelford Corporation. In the community he was active as Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Bolivar, a member of the Bolivar Historical Foundation Board and lifetime member of the US Jaycees. Photography, which he began as a hobby 37 years ago, turned into a second profession. Her retired from photography in 2000. Past involvement include former director of the Hardeman County American Cancer Society “Hee-How” show for 10 years, former member of the Reelfoot Girl Scout Council Board of Directors and Bolivar Rotary Club, past president of the Hardeman county Chamber of Commerce, former member of the Freed-Hardeman University Board of Trustees and past chairman of the Tennessee Forest Festival. In 1994, he was the first recipient of the Hardeman County “Pride of Tennessee” award. Mr. Shackelford was a member and elder of the Middleton Church of Christ. Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Shackelford Funeral Home in Bolivar with Malcolm George and Dwight Fuqua officiating. Burial followed at Bolivar Memorial Cemetery with Larry Hughes, Harry Shelly, Terry Brown, Jimmy Davis, Lloyd Cash and Arthur Wheeler Jr. serving as casket bearers. He had always been busy in the affairs of his community and farming circles. He loved sports and encouraged his children to participate in sports and he always followed them when they were playing regardless where they went playing baseball, basketball and football. He was a faithful Christian and made sure his children went to church. He led his children to the fields to work through the week and always took Sunday to go to Church.
