He was ordained in the United Christian Church and Ministerial Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hershel and Ora Sanders Vandiver. He is survived by his wife, Louise Flowers Vandiver, four daughters, Juanita Bearden of Little Rock, AR, Dorothy Faye LyBarger of Greenbrier, AR, Wilma Dean Ricketts of Crookston, MN, and Glenda Gail Hopf of Hensley, AR; three sons, William Peeks of Hensley, AR, Preston Vandiver of Mabelvale, AR, and Gerald Vandiver of Hensley, AR: two stepsons, Larry Rowland of Henderson, and Donald Rowland of Ridge Miner, FL; one sister, Ozella Ervin of Millington; four brothers, Lester Vandiver of Covington, Windel Vandiver of Selmer, Rev. Mr. Allen attended Scale St. and Easom Schools. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louise and Eddo Allen; one daughter, Adrienne Nicole Allen; one gr-grandson, Antonio Juwan Damron. Mrs. Wardlow was a homemaker. She was a member of Michie Primitive Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Wardlow; one son, Willie D. Wardlow; and her parents Hansford and Rebecca Browning Emmons. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meeks was a homemaker and a member of Olive Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Edward Meeks. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Stricklin of Ramer, Vickie Stricklin of Corinth, MS and Carol Hutcheson of Corinth MS; one son, Anthony Meeks of Corinth, MS; five sisters, Imojean Jarnagin of Guys, Linda Martin of Ramer, Nita Butler of Ramer, Doris Kirk of Ramer, and Donna Childers of Ramer; one brother, Clyde James of Rochelle, IK: and six grandchildren. Mrs. Rushing was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Cecil Rushing in 1994; her parents, John S. and Emma Laws, all of Clarksburg; one brother, Barton Laws of Nashville; three sisters, Mamie Dill of Huntingdon, Elaine Bush of Lexington, and Edith Pendergrass of Atwood; and one granddaughter, Janet Ross of Nashville. She is survived by one brother, Dwayne W. Pallbearers were Brian Ross, Nathan Ketsdever, Marty Rushing, Laws Rushing, Jr., Dwayne Rushing, Denton Bush, Wilfred Pendergrass, and Johnny Laws. ---------------------- LINDA FRY HODGE of Bethel Springs, 58, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2001 at Jackson General Hospital as the result of her car being swept from Hwy. 64 west of Selmer during the flash flooding on Nov. 29th. Mrs. Hodge was born and reared in Hornsby of Hardeman County, the daughter of the late A.M. and Dora Elizabeth Murdaugh Fry. She attended school in Hardeman County and graduated from Bolivar Central High School in 1961. She was married to Roger Hodge in 1968 and they made their home in the Woodville Community of Chester County since that time. She was employed at Harmon Mfg. Company in Bolivar in the 60’s and had been employed with the McNairy County Education System for the past six years as a cool at Bethel Springs Elementary. She was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school in the primary department. She is survived by her husband, Roger Stanley Hodge of Woodville; one daughter, Casey Darlene Hodge; one grandson, Darrian Kyle Sanders, both of Selmer. She also has a brother, Jerry Fry of Bolivar. Funeral services for Mrs. Hodge were held on Tues., Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Casey Funeral Home in Henderson with Rev. Mike Ward and Rev. Pat Kough officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery near Henderson. ----------- EMIL SPECK of Adamsville, 72, died Dec. 20, 2001 at Methodist Healthcare McNairy Hospital of heart failure. Mr. Speck was retired from Kolpak Refrigeration. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Speck and Floy Jones. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Speck of Adamsville; two sons, George Leckner and Randy Leckner, both of Adamsville; one sister, Clete Speck of Memphis; one brother, Al Speck of Memphis; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Hatch was a retired nurse. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Autrey Bennie. She is survived by her mother, Olivia Bennie of Rising Star, TX, her husband, Jerry Hatch of Bethel Springs; one daughter, Teresa Virgin of Iowa Park, TX; one son, Raymond Marshall of Michie; three sisters, Fay Lamb of Cisco, TX, Audrey Watkins of Gardendale, TX, and Ann Ashton of Colorado Springs, CO; and two grandchildren. Burial followed at Woodville Cemetery in Chester County. ---------------------- WOODROW ROBERSON of West Memphis, AR, 87, died Dec. 21, 2001 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roberson was a diesel mechanic and salesman. He was a charter member and deacon of Vanderbilt Baptist Church in West Memphis, AR. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Roberson; three daughters, Marie Cagle and Sue Eubanks, both of Crump, and Ruth Holland of West Memphis, AR; two sons, Woody Roberson of Mountain Home, AR, and Bill Roberson of Nashville; two sisters, Estelle Glover and Rachel Casteel, both of Jacksonville, AR; and eleven grandchildren and fifteen gr-grandchildren. HODGES of Michie, 65, died Dec. 17, 2001 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Mrs. Hodges was a homemaker and a member of Michie First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Bonnie Rhodes Mills, and four brothers, Nolen Mills, Shearl Mills, Rudolph Mills, and Joe Mills. She is survived by her husband, Joe Hodges of Michie; one daughter, Tina Baldwin of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Charles Mills of Michie, and Ralph Mills of Michie; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Becky Baldwin. Mr. North was an antique dealer, retired truck driver and warehouse manager for Malone & Hyde in Jackson. He was a member of Locke Road Baptist Church and was in the Army Reserve for six years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred North and Clara Wigginton North. He is survived by his wife, Ann North of Selmer; one daughter, Jennifer North of Selmer; two brothers, James Kelly North of Ramer, and Joe North of Jackson; and one sister, Annitta Carter of Macon, GA Funeral services for Mr. North were held on Thurs., Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer with Harold King and James Howell officiating. Burial followed at Hunter Cemetery near Selmer. ---------------------- WILLIAM D. WHITTEN of Selmer, 67, died Dec. 19, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Whitten did electronic repair work at Whitten’s Electronics and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He was in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a former P.O.W. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Whitten. He is survived by his mother, Mayo Whitten of Selmer; his wife, Mildred Whitten of Selmer; his step-daughter, Brenda Hatley; one sister, Mary Lee Owen of Memphis; one niece, Sonya Panych; two nephews, Phillip Owen and Rodney Owen; and one step-grandchild, Michael Ferri of Adamsville. Mrs. Bolding was a secretary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel Tipton Worley; her husband, Jimmie Bolding; and one daughter, Sandy Fisher. Mr. Crewse was a truck driver. He was a 32nd Degree Mason Scottish Rites, an Air Force Veteran, and a fiddle player for L.D. Kiser Band, and former fiddle player for Lonesome Road Bluegrass Band. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Crewse of Bethel Springs; three daughters, Miss Brenda Crewse of Selmer and Miss Robin Crewse and Mrs. Unita Gage, both of Bethel Springs; four sons Mr. Vernon Crewse of South Whitney, IN, Mr. Larry Crewse of Flint, MI, Mr. Alan Crewse of Indianapolis, IN, and Mr. Samuel Crewse of Speedway, IN; one sister Mrs. Bonnie Hudson of Burton, MI; one brother, Mrs. Clayton Crewse of Durand, MI; and nineteen grandchildren. Burial followed at Lebanon in Saltillo. ---------------------- HATTIE GOODRUM of Nashville, formerly of McNairy County, 91, died Dec. 19, 2001 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage. Mrs. Goodrum was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Juliet Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Earl and Cora Moore King, and her husband, Rev. James W. Goodrum. She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine Hall of Nashville; three sons, Grady A. Goodrum of Mt. Juliet, William C. “Bill” Goodrum of Antioch, and Leland Goodrum of Memphis; two sisters, Sadie Mae Sanders of Selmer and Jewell King of Selmer; along with 11 grandchildren, 13 gr-grandchildren, and one gr-gr-grandchild. Mr. King was a combustion engineer and steel fitter. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Antioch Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie McAlpin King, and his wife Norma Gene Smith King. He is survived by his father, Theodore King of Selmer, and one niece, Deborah Smith. Funeral services for Mr. King were held on Wed., Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer with Brian Jackson and Nat Evans officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Ramer. ----------- WYONIA HOOPER MILLER of McNairy, 84, died Nov. 7, 2001 of heart failure at Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, TN. Mrs. Miller was a CNA at the former McNairy County General Hospital where she worked for over 20 years. She was also a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlan Miller, one daughter, Carolyn Maynard; two sons, Carl “Smittie” Miller and James Lee Miller; and her parents, Johnnie and Jennie Smith Hooper. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra McKinnie of Apopka, FL; one sister, Geneva Fisher of medina; one brother, Lester Hooper of Dyer; along with ten grandchildren, and ten gr-grandchildren. Zion Cemetery in McNairy. ---------------------- ZELMA RUTH MARTIN of Selmer, 72, died Nov. 8, 2001 of heart failure at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Mrs. Martin was a retiree of Brown Shoe Company and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry R. Martin, and her parents, Andrew Jackson and Alice Mae Foster King. She is survived by three daughters, Ellen Potter, Sherry Monroe, and Telleah Martin, all of Selmer; two sons, Avery Huckabee of Ramer, and Toyo Martin of Pocahontas, one sister, Ethelda Sisk of Selmer; along with nine grandchildren and eight gr-grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Martin were held on Sat., Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Selmer with Greg Worthy officiating. Mrs. Hamilton was a retired garment worker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmage Hamilton, and her parents, Hugh Columbus and Hattie Lou Duncan Jackson. She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Wilson and Patricia Beavers, both of Michie; three sons, Donald Spence of Forest City, AR, Dewey Hamilton of Oakland, and Travis Hamilton, St. of Collierville; two sisters, Dulcie May Hall of Counce and Gustie Byrd of Corinth, MS; along with eleven grandchildren and twelve gr-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Shackelford Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. She was a member of Selmer First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Barnes, the widow of Ezra A. Barnes, leaves a daughter, Nelda Barnes Evans of Jackson; a son, Jerry Robert Barnes of Memphis; a sister, Martha Bess Howell of Middleton, and two grandchildren. Elizabeth I. Mr. Roland was a retired farmer and owner/operator of Roland’s Cash Market. He was also a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge #132 at Bethel Springs. He was a WWII Army Veteran, European Theatre of Operations, and a recipient of a Purple Heart. He attended schools in Chester County. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. C. “Tip” Roland and Lou Violet Isbell Roland. He is survived by his wife, Joye Inez Robinson Roland; two brothers, Robert Roland of Henderson and W.T. Mrs. Rankin was a homemaker, a loving mother, and a friend and neighbor to everyone. She was also a member of New Home Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lillie Davidson Patterson; her husband, Frank Rankin, in 1979; two sons, Herman Rankin and one at infancy. Mrs. Locke was a born in Corinth, MS on Feb 3, 1967. She was a registered nurse and employee of the Corinth Surgery Center of Corinth. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and her hobby was horse back riding. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Douglas Locke of Corinth; her mother, Ernestine W. Brown; one daughter, Sarah Grace Locke of Corinth; one brother, Tony Brown of Glen, MS; on sister Tawana Harding of Glen, MS; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dilworth was a homemaker for 48 years and she enjoyed Ladies Bible Class Studies and church work. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Lucille Green and Andrew Jackson “A.J.” Stovall; six brothers, Willie Roy Boone, William Stovall, Lewis Stovall, Oliver Stovall, Johnny Stovall, and Huey B. Dilworth; five daughters, Vivian Dilworth of Booneville, MS, Regina Graham and husband Anthony of Corinth, MS, Terissa Patterson and husband Jackie of Corinth, MS, Arnita Stafford and husband Dwight of Rienzi, MS and Barbara Curlee of Corinth, MS; on son, Ronald Dilworth of Corinth, MS; three sisters, Annie Laura Bowers of Corinth, MS, Mildred Brown of Indianapolis, IN, and Rona Mae Davis of Reinzi, MS; other family including Gene Mae Hennings of Corinth, MS, Dessie Sullivan Hayes of Ypsilanti, MI; along with 14 grandchildren and 16 gr-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Dilworth were held on Wed., Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. at South Parkway Church of Christ with Daniel Hope officiating. Burial followed at Annie Dilworth Cemetery in Biggersville, MS. Her grandsons were pallbearers. Patterson’s Memorial Chapel was in change of arrangements. ---------------------- JAMES “PETE” BUTLER of Ramer, 72, died Nov. 27, 2001 of kidney failure at Methodist Healthcare McNairy Hospital in Selmer. Mr. Butler was a retiree of the McNairy County Highway Department where he had worked for 20 years. He was also a member of Ramer Baptist Church, a former member of the Democratic Committee, and a Korean War Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Lee and Mollie Dee Malone Butler, and one brother, Vester Butler. He is survived by his wife, Fern Parmely Butler; two sons, Keith Butler of Milan, and Larry Butler of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Mildred Warren and Joyce Holmes, both of Memphis; one brothers Marion Junior Butler of Corinth, MS; one granddaughter, Jean Ann Ingram. Funeral services for Mr. Butler were held Fri., Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Selmer with Eric Jones and Tim Tutor officiating.
