Knoxville, September 5. On Wednesday evening last Mr. James Kilpatric was killed by a party of Indians on Poor Valley Creek, about 17 miles from Hawkins Courthouse and 3 miles from the main Kentuckey road. Mr. Kilpatric had gone out to drive up his cattle, and was not more than 400 yards from his house when the Indians fired on him; they instantly made off without attempting to scalp him.

For reasons appearing to this court, It is ordered, that unless the defendants, John Herritage and the heirs of Martin Caswell, shall appear here on the first day of the next term, that then the bill of the complainants shall be taken for confessed; and that a copy of this order be forthwith published in the Gazette of this territory and the Cape-Fear Gazette for four weeks successively, and at the door of the courthouse in Jonesborough. Bullock, defendents.
In Equity Some of the heirs and devisees having failed to enter their appearance according to the rules of this court, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that they reside out of the limits of this territory--on motion of the complainants, It is ordered, that unless the said heirs and decisees shall appear here on the first day of the next term, and answer the bill of the complainants, that then it shall be taken for confessed; and that a copy of this order be forthwith inserted in the Gazette of this territory, in the Kentuckey and Cape-Fear Gazettes, and in the newspaper regularly published in Hager's-town, for three weeks successively, and at the door of the courthouse in the town of Jonesborough. Five Dollars Reward
Stolen out of Mr. Joseph Rogers's
pasture at Rogersville on Tuesday night the 18th instant, a likely dark
bay horse, fifteen hands high, a star in his forehead, blind of the left
eye, branded on the near shoulder I T, and on the near buttock H O Y. Whoever
will take up said horse, and deliver him to Mr. Rogers,
shall receive five dollars reward.
