Lynn Garden lies directly north of Kingsport proper, centered around Lynn Garden Drive.  Lynn Garden began development in the late 1920s and early 1930s as a suburb of Kingsport.  At that time Lynn Garden Drive was the two lane, US 23 North, called by locals, The Gate City Highway.  In the mid-1950s, the highway was expanded to four-lanes and renamed Lynn Garden Drive.  Lynn Garden Drive runs from it's intersection with West Center Street to the Virginia State Line.

Earlier in Lynn Garden's history, John Lynn, a factor for William King at The Boatyard, owned a large tract of land running roughly from the present Lovedale area to approximately the top of Kyle Hill where it met the land grant of Peter Morison.  It is from the farming and gardening of this holding of John Lynn that the area became know as Lynn's Gardens, later becoming known as Lynn Garden.
