| Hickman County News Centreville, Hickman Co., Tenn. Thurs. Nov. 20, 1924 Aged Brothers Pass to Eternal Rest Newton M. HARVILL, 73, Dies Near Shady Grove on Sunday; Hugh C. HARVILL on Following Day The deaths of two brothers, both prominent in their respective communities throughout long and useful lives, came only a few hours apart and brought profound sorrow to the hearts of many during the early part of this week. On Sunday Newton M. HARVILL passed into eternity at his home near Shady Grove, death occurring on the day before his seventy-third birthday; and on Monday afternoon Esquire Hugh C. HARVILL, nearly seventy, quietly fell asleep at his home on Bluebuck, near Littlelot. Death in both cases was caused by similar attacks of bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services for the elder brother were held at his home on Tuesday morning, the pastor of his home church being in charge of the services. Interment followed at the Mobley graveyard near shady Grove. The last sad rites for the brother whose death followed so closely that of his elder brother, were held on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Alvin Lee Bates of this place conducting the service at the home. The remains were then taken to Sheboss cemetery near the Hickman-Maury county line, where they were interred beside those of other relatives. Newton M. HARVILL was married early in life to Miss Gensey FULLER who died many years ago. They were parents of one child, Mrs. John KING who lives in Texas. He was later married to Miss Bammie DORTON, who died several years ago. They were parents of the following living children: Robert, Mrs. George LYNN, Arch, William, Crittenden and Miss Nora HARVILL of the home and community. He was a member of the Baptist church the greater part of his life and was a highly respected citizen. Esq. H. C. HARVILL was first married to Miss Jennie DAVIDSON who died in 1904. They were parents of the following children: Thomas E. HARVILL and H. G. HARVILL of this county; Mrs. Algie CONNOR of Clinton, Ky., formerly Miss Mary Ann HARVILL; and Jesse M. HARVILL of Grand Haven Mich. Following the death of the beloved wife and mother, he was married to Miss Mary DAVIDSON who survives. They were parents of two children, Edmund HARVILL who died several months ago at a local hospital, and an infant who died many years ago. He was also a member of the Baptist church the past forty years, was highly respected and, like his brother, was influential in affairs of his community. The two deceased brothers are the last of their immediate family, death having claimed other members during the passing years. |
