- HARLEY, STAFFORD,
SWEARENGIN posted by Norman
D. PRICE on Friday, January 2, 1998
- I am looking for information on the HARLEY, STAFFORD and
SWEARENGIN families in Jackson, Overton, and Putnam Counties.
These families apparently came from North Carolina to Tennessee
at an early date and there were many marriages between them.
I am especially interested in the ancestors of Robert and Joseph
SWEARENGIN who were enumerated with Hiram and Elizabeth STAFFORD
HARLEY (of Jackson County, Tn.) on the 1860 census in Webster
County, Missouri. These children were born in about 1851/52 and
1856/57 respectively, Robert listed as born in Tennessee and
Joseph listed as born in Missouri. On Joseph's death certificate
his parents are listed as John E. SWEARENGIN and his mother as_______
HARLEY. It is known that Elizabeth HARLEY, daughter of Hiram
and Elizabeth STAFFORD HARLEY married Hugh SWEARENGIN and that
they moved to Greene, then to Webster County, Missouri sometime
before the 1860! census was taken.
