- I feel there is a connection between the JACKSON and OXENDINE
families. John P Oxendine or Jonathan Oxendine was indentured
to James Jackson and Saroah "Sally" COX Jackson in
Jan 1853. Does anyone know anything about this? I believe the
Oxendines were at least part Native American. I would like to
find the parents of Spencer PHILLIPS born March 1825 in Overton
Co, TN. according to his Civil War Pension papers. He married
Rebecca Jackson, daughter of James JACKSON, Esq. and Saroah "Sally"
Cox Jackson. Spencer and Rebecca were parents of Willis Phillips,
Matina Phillips, Sarah Phillips, Nancy Phillips, Pheriba Phillips
Ford, Dicy Phillips, and James B. Phillips. Spencer later married
Louise Hamcock, after Rebecca died presumably due to complications
of childbirth. I'd welcome any info. available. Thanks, Steve

- HOOSER, VANHOOSER
posted by Janet SNYDER on Monday,
May 25, 1998
- Looking for Overton County info on my ggggrandfather, Squire
VANHOOSER (all sorts of spellings and sometimes find him as just
Hooser). From what I can piece together from census records,
he was born between 1775-1794. In the 1820 census, I find him
in Overton County, as Squire V. HOOSER, with wife, two girls
under 10 and one boy under 10. I do see that living nearby him
are John V. HOOSER, Isaac V. HOOSER and Abraham HOOSER, so they
most likely are kin. And that's all I know about his Tennessee
roots. He moved to Crawford County Indiana and was living there
for the 1830 census, and it looks like the family stayed put
there for the most part. The children he and his wife had while
in Overton were James W. (my gggrandfather), Elizabeth, and Margaret.
I have not yet identified his wife's name. Thanks for your help.
