In the year 1881, The State Of Tennessee created Pickett County. from the northern edge of Overton and Fentress County. The county was named after H.L. PICKETT, a lawyer who help with the bill to create Pickett. The eastern part of Pickett is part of the Cumberland Plateau and very few people live there. The remaining area is the Highland Rim. This is drained by the Obey and Wolf river. Some of the early famileis in Pickett were FRANKLIN, ROBBINS, HILL, PARRIS, CLARK, PENDERGRASS, SEVIER, GARRETTS, FLOWERS, WINNINGHAMS.
