YOUR POLK COUNTY, TENNESSEE AMERICAN LOCAL HISTORY NETWORK WEB SITE IS VERY PLEASED TO PRESENT:
The American State Papers
Indian Affairs
Volume One
The region that is now Polk County, Tennessee was a part of the ancestral home of the Cherokee east of the Mississippi
These documents lie, in their entirety, online at the Library of Congress. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/amlaw/lwsplink.html#anchor2
We have made an attempt to extract as many of these documents as possible pertaining to the Cherokee People. No doubt we have missed some. If you search the index and find something you want to see, that is not listed here please visit the link above. You are advised to search the INDEX, being sure to read/scan as much of the index as you can because what you need may lie under a title such as "War", "Depredations" or "Treaties" or it might lie under a surname...it surely pays to look. These are original documents and their authenticity is unquestionable.
These pages are in .gif files & may take some time to download.
Please feel free to print any pages you want...there are NO copyright issues. In order to get the entire page you will probably need to use legal sized paper in your printer as some cropping occurs during printing if no adjustments are made...or you can resize the image in your photo program.
