Fairmount Cemetery is located in the community of Fairmount, the oldest community on Signal Mountain, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Travel up Signal Mtn., TN on 127/Taft Highway untill you come to Hollester Road which is next to the Texico/Favorite Market. Go about 8/10th mile on Hollester Rd., make a right hand turn onto West Fairmount Road, after about 1 block, take a left onto North Fairmount Road, travel about 3/10 mile and turn right (there is a small sign on a tree) onto a one lane road that ends at Fairmount Cemetery.
I counted 112 + (I might have missed some of these graves) marked graves that are only marked with a stone or they are so old the information is no longer there. The oldest part of Fairmount Cemetery is close to the fence at the front of the cemetery and in the center. From the research I have done about the communities of Signal Mountain, Fairmount Cemetery was originaly the Fairmount Methodist Church Cemetery. The Methodist Church is no longer there but the steps are located just to the right of Fairmount Cemetery and mountain stone is scattered around which could be from the foundation of the old church.
I have done my best to record the names and dates of the individuals that are buried in this cemetery as they appeared on their markers but mistakes can be made. I have also left out the names and dates of the individuals that appear to be still living, out of respect for these families. Hamilton County Cemeteries WPA thru 1937 This is a listing of the 156 cemeteries transcribed by the WPA Adminstration in the late 1930's. The number after the cemetery name indicates the number of pages that were transcribed. The directions on how to get to the cemeteries are also from that time before the freeway system was constructed and before many of today's housing developments.
