The Smith County Historical & Genealogical Society was organized in 1965
and has approximately 300 members across the nation responding to
information given and requested in quarterly newsletter.
We are actively involved in promoting the preservation of architecture, artifacts and
the county archives. We are also currently involved in or monitoring restoration of the
Rome Ferry, Dixon Springs, Stonewall Bridge and the newly developing Heritage Museum.
The Society meets Jan, Feb, March, April, May, June, Sept, Oct and Nov. approximately
25-30 active local members attend each meeting held 7 pm at lower level of county
library on courthouse square in Carthage.
