The Defeated Creek community has lost another well known citizen in
the passing away of J.M. Kemp, who died at his home in the Difficult
community January 8, 1936.
For a number of years Mr. Kemp was engaged in dealing in various
kinds of live stock, and it was through these activities he came to be
known among his intimate friends as "Trading John Kemp."
Though he had been in declining health for a number of months, Mr.
Kemp was up and about the place until just a few hours prior to his death.
He was born and reared in that community, a son of the late Mr. & Mrs.
Asa Kemp, and he was the last surviving of a number of children.
He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Virgia
Allen, four children, Asa Kemp, Mrs. Brittie Kemp, Mrs. Mallie Hackett,
and Mrs. Beulah Jones, all of the Difficult community. He was a professed
Christian, but had never united with any church.
Funeral services were conducted at the home last Thursday by Rev.
G.W. Ramsey, and burial was made in the family lot near the residence.
