Elizabeth Petty b. Abt 1817 Wake County, North Carolina d. Aft 1870 DeKalb County, Alabama

m: Abt 1837 Overton County, Tennessee to James Wilbourn Pendergrass b. 1815 Overton County, Tennessee d. 1864 DeKalb County, Alabama. (Most Overton Co. records 1825-1850 destroyed)

After James Wilbourn died 1864 - Eliza remarried Byrum Williams before 1865 - no marriage record located in Alabama.  We lose both Elizabeth and William after the 1870 US Census in DeKalb County, Alabama.  We presume both died before the 1880 Census.  Follows are the family group sheets for Eliza and James Wilbourn Pendergrass. We did not include a group sheet for the marriage to Byrum Williams since there is no other info available.  Byrum was born circa 1801 in South Carolina.

On the 1900 Census Rebecca reported 10 Children born ... 9 living. Both Rebecca & William report being married two years - so we presuem they married 1898.

US 1910 Census Robertson County, Texas
William Vaughn age 56 b. Alabama - Single - and a lodger with Louise Orvis

US 1920 Census - Runnels County, Texas
William age 67 b. Alabama
Rebecca age 57 b. Alabama
John C. age 14 b. Texas

William Vaughn married Rebecca Pendergrass Morton twice.

According to the 1900 Census there were 9 living of 10 children born. The total of children born to Jim & Rebecca is correct because Thomas J. died before the 1900 Census. With the addition of John C. from the marriage to William Vaughn, that proves 11 children born ... 10 living - the full accounting of children born to Rebecca and her two husbands.

Neither William or Rebecca can be found after the 1920 US Census.
