Bowlings Branch School
The Bowlings Branch school was located SE of Gordonsville on the Lancaster Road (Hwy 141).
There were earlier school buildings in the community but this one was used starting in 1939
and continuing until the mid 1950s. After the school was closed the building was used for
several years by Neal and Lena Hunt for a grocery store.

Recently a 20 foot wide stage curtain was located stored in the building. It contained a
painted lighthouse scene and around the edge were advertisements by businesses and county
officials. One of the ads reads compliments of the teachers 1939-40.
This curtain is now exhibited in the Smith County Heritage Museum.
