Robinson School 1924 in Horseshoe Bend
From "The Carthage Courier" circa early 1970s

Like most other one teacher schools, this one is no more. It was located in the lower end of
Horeshoe Bend, on what is now government land. Every sign of the old school building is gone,
along with the homes and people that made this a living, breathing community.
The water of the new Cordell Hull lake cover some of the land and the rest including the site
of this little school, will be a public recreation park.

Most of these children in this 1924 picture are grandparents now, one or two have died, two or
three couples are married to each other. Some who attended the school were not present when this
picture was made. Among these were Rob Gann, T. D. Bates, Ammon Whitehair, Ernest and Clifton
Robinson, Celestia Pettross, Adalee, Mabel and Glenn Bennett.

Identified in the picture, front row, Belle Bibee, Wynema Knight, Lorene Benett, Virginia
Samson, Doris Gann, Margie Robinson, Second row: Baxter Gann, Oraleen Petty, Fanny Bibee,
Evangeline Knight, Nelle Gann, Samantha Knight, Maggie Knight, Bessie Pettross, Mildred
Bennett, Adrian Bennett and standing in the door is Sam Apple and the teacher Irene Petty.
It is recalled that Sam was making everybody laugh and had to be removed to "custody!"

This picture is the property of Mrs. Nelson Baker who was then Mildred Bennett.
