lines were linked. Jonathan GRIFFITH first settled on the land at
Forks of the PIKE(Smith/Dekalb Co)about 1804.apparently came from
NC--near the VA border line---Neighbor families probably travelled
into Smith Co together. We may find some vital clue/link?--Judy

I am researching the SULLIVAN brothers Joseph b 1771, Owen b 1772,
Daniel b 1773, and Isaac b 1781 who moved from Orange Co., NC, about
1795-1800 and settled in Tennesse in what was then western Smith Co.
and eastern Sumner Co. --- now Macon Co., near/along Goose Creek. The
location and timing of their arrival is roughly the same as my
SMOTHERS ancestors. I believe I am also a descendant of one of these
SULLIVAN brothers (probably Owen through his son Isaac).
My gg grandmother, Martha E. Sullivan SMOTHERS b 1832 TN, seems to
have had two sisters, Mary Jane SULLIVAN b 1825 TN and Margaret Ann
SULLIVAN b 1835 TN who both married WIX and were living in Macon Co.,
TN, in early 1900.

Looking for information about ancestors of Dr. John HIETT and wife,
Alice VEATCH (sometimes spelled VEACH). He was a country doctor
around Highland, Jackson County; he died there in Nov, 1902
(according to an eulogy written about him). Alice HIETT, a
schoolteacher in Jackson Co. who died in Nashville in 1958, was
daughter of William Tell VEATCH (or VEACH) of Jackson County, and
Mary Ann WILLIAMS, of Overton County. William Tell VEATCH was
reportedly a wheelwright and blacksmith around Highland, also a
veteran of Hamilton's Cavalry Battalion (CSA) during the Civil War.
Dr. John HIETT had a brother, CPT Ben HIETT, Spanish American War,
who is buried in Arlington National Cemetary. They were the sons of
John W. HIETT and Emily WINKLER of Smith County. John W. HIETT was a
1LT in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry (CSA) during the Civil War. I have
no more info beyond that, but would like more, or advice on how to
find more! Thanks!

several children and later moved to Jefferson Co. Illinois with
Joseph's mother and Harriet's parents and siblings. Phillip died in
1815. The Payne family didn't move until 1837. Any more information
