EWING

I am trying to find info on the James Ewing family. James was born in 1758. He died in 1810 in Smith Co. TN. He had the following children: John, James, Ruthy, Ruben, William P., Alfred, Melinda maybe more. I am interested in his son John. John married Elizabeth Dillard in 1805 in TN. County unknown. I am looking for this couple's children. I know of Christopher, Osborn, Sidney, James and William. This family moved from TN to Gallatin Co. IL around 1811 and then to White Co. IL where Christopher was born in 1818. Then they moved to Logan Co. IL in 1829. I have been given 9 other names for children in this family but there are no mention of them other than the 5 sons of John and Elizabeth. Does anyone have more info on this family. Thanks

PICKETT

I am looking for information re the death of Jonathan Pickett, who was the Smith County Clerk from 1819-1835 and died before the compilation of the 1837 tax list. He was born ca. 1793 in Virginia; his wife was Mary Vance. He had probably been a filibuster in the Mexican War of Independence in the 1810s. What I'm really wondering is whether the end of his term as clerk and/or his death had any connection with the Texas Revolution in 1835-1836.

CHAFFIN

My grandfather (HC, son of Robert CHAFFIN, son of Harvey Chaffin) told me that Harvey Chaffin's father was John. (My grandfather proved right in every small detail which he gave me, and this was twenty years before PC's or on-line research, so I cannot throw it out until someone can give me some solid proof that it is otherwise.) Anyway, he could not remember his gggrandmother's name (John's wife), and he told me to get in touch with Oakley Chaffin and that he would know. Unfortunately, this was over 20 years ago. Does anyone know who Oakley Chaffin is and whether or not I can reach him? If you do, please contact me. Thank you so much!

My uncle has been searching for many decades and has a formidable data base established, but documents we seek may not be readily available but will come from a family bible or family letters. We do know that Susan Caroline and her husband Garrett Spencer JAMES (son of Daniel JAMES c1799-1854 and Sarah Unk. JAMES; grandson of Bartlett JAMES, Sr.) lost touch with families after their marriage. Susan Caroline OAKLEY (18 October, 1826 TN -perhaps Wilson or Smith Co / 23 January 1907 Crittenden County, KY) married Spencer JAMES before 1850. Susan and Garrett JAMES migrated to Crittenden Co, KY c1850 and had 11 children [Thomas Nathaniel JAMES, Martha Elizabeth JAMES, Margaret Frances JAMES, Horace Andrew JAMES, R.S.A. JAMES, Mary Jane JAMES, William Lewis JAMES, Garrett Smith JAMES, Julia C. JAMES, and Idelia Meridian JAMES]. Have considerable information to share.
