Hi, I'm a TALLEY researcher and have close to 1,000 of them. I've recently
been asked about a connection to the name in Tennesee. I admit to not knowing
about this branch. I've done very little research, but what I have done,
comes up with a Joshua W. Talley being in Smith Co. around 1820. Does anyone
know where he was born or who his parents were? Where did they come from?
The majority of the Talley's I am aware of are from the Delaware and north

SHORT
Can you help me find an obituary or other information on Thomas R. SHORT,
who was a physician in Smith County from around 1800 to around 1836. I
believe he died after late 1836 and before or in 1839. He was dead prior
to the 1840 census. He lived in Carthage TN. Was there a newspaper in the
county that might have printed his obituary? Were death records kept at
that time?

JOLLEY, ALLEN, UHLES
Miles JOLLEY was listed in the 1840 census in Smith County. He gave his
place of birth as NC. There is a great possibility that Miles Jolley was
related to the ALLEN families of Smith Co, for his mother was thought to
have been an ALLEN. Miles married Mary Ann UHLES, and their first two children,
Phoebe Mahalia and John Allen Jolley, were born at Smith Co. Sometime after
the 1840 census, the Jolleys' went to IL, then to MO, and back to IL. If
anyone has anything that might help with this family, it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
