Bartlett James will

 

I Bartlett James do make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me at any time made. First I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible and out of any money that I may die possessed or may first come unto the hands of my executors. Secondly I bond to my beloved wife Sally James during her natural life a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Smith and State of Tennessee beginning at the Baptising place in Hickmans Creek near Hickman Meeting House and _____ westward _____ Bartlett James Sr ______________ ridge hence following _______ ridge to the _____ ridge to where the James wall? entered my east and west ____ hence east to my north east corner hence to the beginning including my dweling house ____ houses ___ And I also parcel to my beloved wife during her life as aforesaid my negro man Jim and my negro woman Jetty? my waggons and four horses of her choice and gear harneses and as many of the cattle, sheep, and hogs as she may choose to keep Two? beds and furniture, one ____ one desk and as many of my household and kitchen ____  and farming utensils as she may choose to keep. Thirdly I give and divide to my four sons Alexander, Daniel, Bartlett and John James and their heirs forever of all of my lands of which I may die signed and possessed of subject herein to the life estate herin ____ Fourthly my will is that at my death all of my personal estate (unreadable)

that bound to my beloved wife shall be equally divided between my following named children to wit Alexander, Daniel, Bartlett and John James and Lettey Berry and at the death of my beloved wife my will is that all the property I have bound to her, that may herin be on hand shall also be equally divided amongst those of my children above mentioned and to make to make distribution My executors are authorized to make sale or otherwise as they may deem best Fifthly I hereby appoint my sons Alexander and John James executors of this my last will and testament In making wherof I do to this my last will set my hand and seal this 30th day of November 1837
