Using Original Court Records: A Hands-On Workshop

The workshop is free, but because all participants will receive a 30 page handout, advance registration is required. Reserve your place by contacting Brenta Davis, (615) 661-9775 or bdavis66@comcast.net no later than September 12.

Our speaker will be Charles A. Sherrill, Director of the Brentwood Public Library. Mr. Sherrill is a librarian, archivist, genealogist, former Director of Public Resources at the Tennessee State Library & Archives and author of 22 genealogical books.

Eliminate the fear and confusion of researching court records by learning how to identify record types and understanding their research value. Through the lecture portions of this workshop, Mr. Sherrill will help you understand why the records were created.

Attendees will handle original records and search for genealogical nuggets within the documents. Combined with instructive lecture and group discussion, this hands-on process will result in a memorable learning experience. The 30-page handout packet can be taken away and studied further, as well as used for later reference.
