Hon. J. W. Turner Dead

Loyston, Tenn., Jan. 20.--Hon. J. W. Turner, Sr., died at this place on the 18th inst., and was buried in Loyston cemetery on the 19th. Mr. Turner was seventy-one years and fifteen days old at the time of his death.  He had lived a long and useful life and was honored and loved by all of his neighbors.  During his life he filled many places of honor and trust, was justice of the peace, clerk of the county court, and served four years as clerk in the pension office at Knoxville under the Harrison administration.  At the time of his death he was clerk of Loyston Baptist church, clerk of the Northern association of Baptists, which is composed of thirty-six missionary Baptist churches and has a membership of 3,552.  He was also a Master Mason and chairman of the republican executive committee for Union County.

 

The funeral was conducted by Rev. J. D. Walker, pastor of the church at this place.

 

Mr. Turner leaves a widow, four sons and three daughters, with a host of friends and relatives to mourn the loss."
