LOYSTON BAPTIST CHURCH ORGANIZATION

The Loyston Baptist Church minutes record the organization of the church in 1885 by the following members: JOHN W. TURNER, H. A. C. BRAFUTE, LUCINDA SANDERS, H. L. TURNER, A. J. CAMPBELL, CORNELIUS R. COOPER, JACOB SMITH, L. W. YORK, and AMUS HALE, and proceeded to adopt the following By-Laws:

1. No person shall be received or continue as a member of this church while voluntary engaged in manufacturing or habitable consuming any species of intoxicating drinks or liquors for any other than manufacturing medicines or culinary purposes.

2. No member shall bring charge against another member except he knows or can prove the truth of such charge or the principal for part thereof, and every charge so brought if requested shall be reduced to writing, and the accused servedwith a copy thereof unless present when the charge is made.

3. Meetings of this church shall be held on the 1st Saturday and Sunday in each month at the hour of 11 o'clock a. m. subject to be changed to any other time by giving one months previous notice and, a majority of the members present giving their views. Communion season to be set by vote of the church on previous motion therefore.

4. It shall be the duty of the Deacons of the church (or financial committee) to lay before the church at least once in every year, and oftener if required the state of the finance of the church and all property to their care.

5. Any male member of the age of 21 years and living within the area of the congregation who shall neglect to attend three successive meetings of business shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor unless he gives or it be known, that he has a good reason for such neglect.

6. No person shall be allowed to administer the ordinances of this church unless he has first come regularly under the imposition of hands of the hands of a presbytery and known to be in good standing in the denomination.

7. Any member receiving an appointment to serve the church or any committee, or in any other capacity of the church, and neglecting to perform the duties assigned him, to the best of his ability, shall be liable to impeachment, and church censure, unless he gives a satisfactory reason for such neglect.
