Dear Friend:

On June 1, 1999, the Union County Historical Society celebrated its 19th anniversary. The society welcomes as members all persons interested in genealogy, heraldry, history or biography, either amateur or professional. The organization meets each third Sunday of the month at the Roy Acuff Union Museum & Library in Maynardville at 2:30 PM.

The museum & library opened on August 6, 1994, fulfilling the primary goal set by the society at the organizational meeting. Artifacts, memorabilia and material culture, along with a growing selection of historical and genealogical source material are now housed in the facility.

The society has sought to share historical information from the outset. Since 1982, the organization has published a number of books dealing with Union County and its people, and the same year began publishing a quarterly magazine, Pathways: History & Genealogical Journal. The magazine is mailed to more than 500 members in 42 states. Monitory gifts are appreciated.

Membership in the organization may be obtained by paying $12 single, $17 family, and $17 out-of-state dues. Lifetime membership is $150.

Family items may be placed in the museum collections either as an outright gift or on loan. Contracts reflecting the donor or lender's choice are available.

With volunteer staff, the museum & library is open three days a week:  Sundays from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. There is no charge.

Respectfully,

Union County Historical Society, Inc.
