The 1938
Collinwood High School Annual
"The Silver And Green"
Volume One

In 1937, the Senior Class at Collinwood High School, with the urging of Mr. J. O. Conwell, Principal, decided to publish an annual - the first ever done for Collinwood High School. The staff was composed of Arline Daniel, Editor-in-chief; Alta Coy Morgan, Assistant Editor; James Cook, Business Manager; Edgar Byler, Production Manager; S. D. Stooksberry, Sports Editor; Rosa Cook, Society Editor; and Richard E. Farmer, Art Editor. Mr. Conwell became the sponsor. The group decided on the following dedication: "To those to whom we owe all that we are, and for whom we would like to be all that they believe we are – OUR MOTHERS."
Due to limited funding available, the annual was not actually printed, at least, not completely. All the text was printed on pre-printed pages. This was done by the Wayne County News Office in Waynesboro. Then the production staff took the actual photographs to be used and pasted them on the appropriate pages. The pages were then bound with a cover using "binding posts" - those screw type posts found on most old style business ledgers. It is unknown how many of these "books" were actually produced. Each member of the Senior Class (all seven of them) got one. The one that belonged to my father, Edgar D. Byler, is the source for this page.
