Explanation of Enumeration (third column)
===============================

Numbers appearing before the double-dash "--" represent males, and the numbers following the double-dash "--" represent females.

Reading left to right, the columns before the double dash "--" are, in order, males 0-5, males 6-10, males 11-15, males 16-20, males 21-30, males 31-40, males 41-50, males 51-60, males 61-70, males 71-80, males 81-90, males 91-100, males over 100. The columns following the double dash "--" enumerate females in those same age groups. Zeros are omitted after the last number inserted.

For example, in the following household entry,

ANDERSON, M.P. (209) 22101--10001

the head of household was M.P. ANDERSON. The entry appeared on page 209 of the original schedules. Enumerated in this household: two males age 0-5, two males age 6-10, one male age 11-15, no males age 16-20, and one male age 21-30 -- one female age 0-5, and one female age 21-30.

Likewise, the following enumeration:

000000001--000000001

represents a household with one male age 61-70, and one female age 61-70.

Finally, the following enumeration:

0--0

represents a household containing blacks categorized as "free colored"
