Will of Merriott Davis

In the name of God Amen,
I Merriott Davis, of the County of Wilson and State of Tennessee, poor in
body but right in mind, calling to mind my mortality, I reccommend [sic], to
the dust & my spirit to God who gave it, hoping and trusting that in the
morning of the resurrection my body shall arise from its dusty bed to meet my
soul in peace and be united and dwell with God eternily [sic]. and for my
worldy [sic] goods which the Lord has blessed me with I first recomend [sic]
my just debts to be paid (to wit) I give to my six Children Robert C. Davis
$1.00 Mary Ferrell $1.00 Patsy H. Parrish $1.00 Mildred Caruth $1.00 Sally
Tarpley $1.00 Elizabeth Caruth $1.00. now the residue of my property I lend
to my belov'd wife to support her as long as she lives. After her death I
give it all but one sixth part to William S. Caruth that sixth part I give to
my daughter Sally Tarply I want out of the money my son Robert C. Davis owes
me to give him Credit for five hundred Dollars for a negro man Sam that I
intended to have given him. Also I give credit on a bond. And also his open
accounts he has against me as witness my hand and seal this 9th. day of march
[sic], being my last will and testament disannuling [sic] all others.
N. B. If Robert C. Davis ever get [sic] so that he gets to pay the of the
many [sic] my six children to divide and I do not want for them to be in any
dispute about he portion of property I do appoint William S. Caruth my
Executor to this my last will and Testament. Meriott [ sic] Davis

The within last will and Testament of Merriott Davis, Deceased was exhibited
in open court and duly proven by the oaths of Everett Mitchell and Thomas
Mitchell, the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered by the court to be
recorded.
