Know ye all men by these present that I ,William Nettles ,of the State
of Tennessee of the county of Wilson, weak in body but sound of mind and
memory thanks best Almighty God for the same. Do make this my Last Will and
Testament in the following manner, to wit :
I will that my body be descently entombed in the firmament from which it
was taken ,my soul to the Lord who gave it.
I will that all my debts be paid.
I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Lucretia, my house and all my
household furniture, all my horses except one bay horse named Toby, which if
failure is made to pay all my debts after making the running crop, then he is
to be sold to pay my debts; all my cotton, all my hogs, all my sheep, and as
much of my land as she shall conside necessary for her own use and benefit;
all my farming interests; all my servants , her lifetime or widowhood,
though
without having any........dispose of the above named property, only that
property which shall increase above what is necessary to keep on the farm
for her own benefit, then shall she dispose of any increase to her own use or
benefit except the increase of my servants, this increase she shall not
dispose of.
The balance of the land that is over the real benefit and use of my
beloved wife Lucretia, shall be rented or attended by my sons John
Nettles, Burl Nettles, Zachariah Nettles in such a manner they think most.....
for their own benefit and the benefit of my little grandchildren Elizabeth
and William Carroll, daughter and son of my son Benjamin Nettles, dcd.,
which
shall be equally divided between the above named heirs. Though without having
any proof to sell or dispose of the land ,only in the way that is specified
or that shall be used as specified.
I will that my son Zachariah Nettles live with his mother, my beloved
wife, until he marries or becomes of age at which time he shall receive as
much of my things as the rest of my sons had at their marriage. This to
include twelve months of schooling and if his mother, my beloved wife,
should
decease this life before my son Zachariah should have arrived of age, or
marry, then my executors shall proceed as I shall hereafter direct.
I will that at the death or intermarriage of my beloved wife, that my land
be equally divided between my three sons John Nettles, Burl Nettles and
Zachariah Nettles and my two little grandchildren Elizabeth H. and William
Carroll Nettles, Benjamin Nettles dcd heirs, the balance of my estate to be
equally divided between the heirs of my body. To wit: John Nettles,
Elizabeth
Hearn, Burl Nettles, Crizie Phillips, Zachariah Nettles and my two grandchildren
Elizabeth H. and William Carroll Nettles daughter and son of my dcd. son
Benjamin Nettles and is my beloved wife should depart this life ,intermarry
before my son Zachariah Nettles comes of age or before my grandchildren shall
come of age, the above division shall take place as specified and the portions
of both my son Zachariah and grandchildren before named shall be disposed of
in such a lawful mission by my executors, that it shall not be wasted or any
way disposed of as to injure them in their part of the estate, but shall so be
managed that it shall be secure for them when they come of age.
After the divisions above named shall have been made, I will that John
Nettles, Burl Nettles, Zachariah Nettles and my grandchildren shall pay unto
Jane Dodd, the sum of one hundred dollars, each one bearing his own equal part
in the matter (specifies $25. each). If my beloved wife should die or
intermarry before my son and grandchildren come of age, then their share of
the hundred dollars is to be taken out of that provision and paid to Jane
Dodds.
I will that my sons John Nettles and Burl Nettles be the administrators
of my last will and testament. Where of I list my name, William Nettles 1

State of Tennessee Wilson County Court June Term 1831.The foregoing Last Will
and Testament of William Nettles was produced in open court and duly noted.
