After 2 months of hectic work - closed
on Memphis house - 2 moves to Greenfield and Condo - we left the boxes,
etc - locked the doors and made a fall time road trip to see the
Grandsons - and sons. Spent first weekend with Kenneth in
Nashville - worked our way up to Harrisonburg, VA to visit with long
time friend, Dean, and meet his lovely wife, Linda. Stopped along
the way in Wytheville, VA for a night and did a little sightseeing at
Staunton, VA at the Frontier Cultural Farms outdoor museum - early
farms of Scotch-Irish, English, Colonial, and American. Dad rented a
golf cart for us to tour the place and we now think this is the ONLY
way to sight see.
We then spent about a week with Robert, Marguerite and the 3 grandsons
- had a wonderful visit. We took up a bunch of stuff for them
from downsizing - the Mexican Matate and Mano - 3 big boxes of books -
a big plastic tub of legos which were mostly from the days of Thomas -
2 of the seascapes painted by my Daddy - Kenneth Catron, the 3 chinese
abacus I bought in Hong Kong, Mom Schrupp's butterfly collection from
Asia....and a few other things. We got to see first hand the boys
practicing their music, where they go to school, Matthew's Saturday
football game - Gran took Bobby shopping for new shoes, a haircut and
and a movie - we had fun! We all went to Friday night movie - The
Bee movie and supper out. Then on Sunday we drove both vans over
to Strasburg, PA to the famous Train place - had lunch on the Red
Caboose Inn Cafe which giggles like a real train, took Amish buggy
rides and rode the Steam Engine train.
Then they went home and we stayed at a
lovely place - AmishView Inn - there was a big pear tree right outside
our window with huge pears on it. Great indoor pool &
whirlpool. Then we visited Gettysburg for Veterans day, stayed at
General Robert E. Lee's Headquarters Inn - then a night at Natural
Bridge, VA - their dinning room is fabulous and nice soft beds - a
night in Pigeon Forge - visited with cousins in Clinton, TN and
Nashville. On our way into Greenfield, picked up a couple of 20+
turkeys -will be going to Memphis today to get ready for Thanksgiving
at Cousin Bob's farm. I got shots in my knees in Oct which
allowed me to do all the work needed for moving and they held out until
last Sunday with the grandsons, for which I am grateful - back to big
time pains again.
On our return trip - the leaves had turned on the trees - absolutely
GORGEOUS! deep wines, plums, rust, orange, yellows. We enjoyed their
beauty all the way home.
