Europe
After Columbus'
voyages to the New World, European countries looked
to the West Indies as the gateway to America. Many
different countries established footholds in the
area, engaged in trade and waged war. Although
Trinidad and Tobago were developed later than other
islands, such as Barbados and Cuba, many different
nationalities had an impact on them. The most
significant of those people were the:
Corsicans
Courlanders
Dutch
English
European Jews
French
Germans
Irish
Portuguese
Scots
