The Ora McMullen Room, John W. Wilkins Collection, has approximately 12,000 book volumes, 4,000 microfilm reels, microfiche, U. S. census and census indexes, 1867 Voter Registration (all Texas counties), and extensive vertical files on local families and organizations such as Ryan Chapel Methodist and other churches. More books are added every week. Every Texas county is represented in the collection as are most of the states from which Texans migrated.

Texas tax rolls for the following counties are also available (most cover time of county formation up to 1910): Anderson, Angelina, Bowie, Brazos, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Freestone, Galveston, Grayson, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Henderson, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Jasper, Jefferson, Kaufman, Lamar, Leon, Liberty, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Red River, Robertson, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker, Wood.

Microfilm copies of the Lufkin Daily News from April 1913 to the present are available. Copies are 50 cents each in person. To have a copy mailed, the cost is $2.00 per page plus a self addressed, stamped envelope. There is no index for the newspaper, but obituaries can usually be found if the death date is known.

Some sources unique to the Ora McMullen Room include "Burke, Texas Cotton Gin Records" donated by Wydette Barrett whose ancestors ran the gin, History Commission proceedings, History Forum 2002 proceedings, and history books of the Angelina County Genelaogical Society. Local history books include Images of Angelina County: 1996, Cornbread Whistle: Texas Timber Company Town, East Texas Calling - Lufkin-Conroe Exchange, Land of the Little Angel, Light in the East Texas Forest, Lufkin: From Sawdust to Oil, The Lufkin That Was, One Day in the Life of Angelina County, Up and Down the Line: Angelina and Neches River Railroad 1900-2000, and many more.

The library has a subscription to Ancestry Library Edition which is free to use in the library (no library card is required). The library staff and volunteers are some of the most helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly people anywhere. Whether you are just beginning your search or are an experienced researcher you will find what you need here.
