ABOUT OUR COLLECTION

1. Books are arranged by state. Collection covers mainly the southern states with the largest concentration with the state of Texas, as well as City of Arlington and Tarrant County local history.

2. Microfilm Collection:
   • Texas Federal Census microfilm covering years 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 & 1930. Other states also available by various years and counties.
   • Texas Soundex microfilm for census years 1900, 1910 and 1920
   • Index to Texas Confederate Soldiers; Texas Confederate Military Service Records
   • Galveston, Texas Passenger Lists: 1896-1948; Texas Voter Register of 1867-1869
   • Index to Texas Births: 1903-1976; Index to Texas Probate Birth Records
   • Index to Texas Deaths: 1903-1973
   • War of 1812 Pension Application Files
   • Census of the Cherokee Nation - 1880 & 1890
   • Freedman's Bank Records

3. Our collection also includes:
   • Local history files (news clippings) on major locations & events from around Arlington and Tarrant County
   • Select Arlington Independent School District annuals
   • City of Arlington directories & telephone books
   • Certain local family genealogy newsletters
   • Arlington newspapers on microfilm dating back to 1897

4. Internet computer terminals are available for use. The Arlington Public Library subscribes to the AncestryPlus and HeritageQuest online databases, which can be accessed at the library through our web-page: www.pub-lib.ci.arlington.tx.us . Other genealogy websites and resources are also listed on our web-page.

6. Arlington Genealogy Society
   Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the George W Hawkes Central Library Community Room from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
