James Alfred, Sally Ann and a daughter died of Tuberculosis in November of 1888 in his mother's "Aunt Bettie" Crocker's home on Crocker mountain in Lafayette county , seven miles north of Paris, District # 1, Mississippi. They are believed to be buried in the Crocker Family Cemetery on Crocker Mountain. Their six living orphan children of which Perry Austin Crocker was one, were reared by friends and neighbors in exchange for work to pay for their room, board and education. The living Crocker Children were Robert Alvis Crocker, Perry Austin, Ada Crocker, Atlas Crocker, James Arthur Crocker, William Almouth Crocker. Perry Austin lived and worked for Jesse McCord family of LAFAYETTE County, Mississippi. He married Marion Arrie McCord, Jesse McCord's motherless half sister on August 27, 1901 in Lafayette County Ms. by T. H. Winter, MG. They first moved to Blevins area, Cass County, Texas in 1902 only to return to LAFAYETTE County Ms, for a few years, returning to Cass County during World War I, in 1917, to a farm near Merrietta, where they reared their children. They lived on the same farm until their deaths, Arrie McCord Crocker on June 21, 1964, and Austin followed her on June 19, 1965. They are buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, at Marietta, Cass County Texas. Everyone who knew this couple respected and loved them. They were pillars of their community. Their farm is presently owned by their granddaughter, Nancy Jo Hampton Nance , daughter of their daughter, Effie Ailene Crocker Hampton and spouse, Don L.
