Funeral services for Alma Lahrmann, 84, of Bellville, were held Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville with the Rev. H. Eldon Akerman officiating.

Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville.

Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Kendrick, Kenneth Woodley, Jim Ellery, Chad Locke, Arlie Kendrick, Warren Klump, Bubba Mewis and Billy Jackson,

Honorary pallbearers were Brian Taylor, Neil Aschenbeck, Ross Aschenbeck, Ronny Robertson, Jimmy Zepeda, Stanley Jackson and Doug Weiss.

Alma Lillie Klara Schroeder Lahrmann was born to parents Herman and Emma Schroeder in Travis Community. She was baptized at the St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem on Nov. 30, 1919 by the Rev. H. Poehlmann. The witnesses were Lillie Albrecht and Klara Goeken. Alma was confirmed on March 25,1934 from the St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem.

She taught Sunday School at Germania Lutheran Church. Germania and New Wehdem had the same pastor. Alma went to Travis School and graduated from the eighth grade. She worked with her parents on the farm.

On Jan. 31,1942 Alma was joined in marriage to Mr. Erwin William Lahrmann by the Rev. H. Schliesser with a ceremony held at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville.

After Erwin and Alma were married they moved to Houston on Sept. 10,1942. Shortly after they moved Erwin was drafted into the Army to serve his country during WWII. Alma would be with him whenever she could and if not she would stay with her sister in Houston.

During Erwin's time of service, Alma worked at several different places. When Erwin was stationed in Washington, D.C. he got his furlough and Alma and Erwin's mother went to see him. When Erwin was stationed in Denver, Colo., Alma got a room with some friends of the family and would cook and clean for her room and board. Alma returned to Houston where she worked for Gracer Coptive Sewing Factory. When Erwin was stationed in California she went out there and worked in Robissin, Calif. as a hotel room inspector. She then returned back to Houston and worked at the National Biscuit Company.

Alma rejoined Erwin in North Carolina where she worked in Durham at the Hosiery Mill. She would work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day and she earned $38.64 after everything was taken out.

After Erwin was discharged from the Army, he and Alma eventually returned to Bellville where among other things they owned and operated Lahrmann Bar B Que for 36 years.

Alma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6522. Alma was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a very hard worker. She will be missed dearly!

Alma Lahrmann passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 in Bellville.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Kendrick and husband Harold (Dusty) of Bellville and Carolin Woodley and husband Ronny of Bellville; grandchildren, Curtis Kendrick of Bellville, Kenneth Woodley and wife Stacey of Bellville and Tammy (Woodley) Ellery and husband Jim of Conroe; great grandchildren, Jordan Ellery and Regan Woodley.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Emma Schroeder, husband, Erwin Lahrmann, sisters, Dora Kaase and husband Fritz, Fredia Bader and husband Thomas, Nettie Reichle and husband Bennie, brother, Theo Schroeder.
