Funeral services for Dalby Mikeska were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April
14, 2003 at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Pastor Ross Worch
officiating. Burial followed in the National Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Pallbearers were John Stewart, Aaron Vincik, Jacob Vincik, Tony Lefner,
Pete Kaminsky, Buck Kollman and Bardy Helwig.
Honorary pallbearers were members
of the Bellville VFW, Post #6522.
Dalby Mikeska was born Feb. 1, 1924 in Nelsonville, Texas the son of Jerry
D. and Esther (Kamas) Mikeska. He grew up and attended school in
Nelsonville and Bellville.
After graduating from Bellville High School, he attended
Blinn College, the University of Nebraska and the University of Texas.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Having enlisted in 1942, Dalby served in the 44th Infantry Division in the
Military Police Platoon where he attained the rank of Corporal. He was honorably
discharged in 1945.
Dalby was united in marriage with Beryl Johnson in Alice, Texas on Oct.
21, 1950. They have made their home in Bellville, Texas where Dalby was
employed as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Post Office for many years before his
A lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, he was also a member of the
Bellville VFW, Post #6522, Texas Sportsman's Association, National Rifle
Association, NARFE and the St. John's Retreat Center Committee. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing and outdoor cooking. A devoted husband and father, he
adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dalby Lloyd Mikeska passed away Friday, April 11, 2003 in a Houston
hospital at the age of 79.
He is survived by his wife of over 52 years Beryl Mikeska of Bellville,
daughters Debbie Stewart and her husband Tommy, Annette Vincik and her
husband Ernie of Bellville, Wanda Lefner and her husband Tony of Oglesby,
Texas, grandchildren, John Stewart, Aaron Vincik, Jacob Vincik and Brandi
Garay, all of Bellville, and great grandchildren Normandy King and Samuel
Garay also of Bellville. He is also survived by his sister Dottie Helwig
of Bellville, brother Derry Mikeska of Bellville, numerous other relatives
and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and
mother-in-law Hob and Alma Johnson, brother Denny Mikeska and brother-in-law James
