Funeral services for Vance Uriah Cooper, 89, of Wallis, were held Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at 10 a.m. from Knesek & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis with the Rev. Russell Davis and the Rev. Howard Boyd officiating.
Interment was at Wallis Cemetery. Pallbearers serving were his
grandchildren, Jon D. Cooper, Clint U. Cooper, Steven L. Cooper, Vance R. Cooper, Peter T. Cooper, Michael R. Ellis, Robert A. Cooper, Chris M. Cooper, Wayne A. Delso, Douglas A. Cooper, Kathryn J. Ellis, Alyssa N. Ellis and Heather L. Delso. Honorary Pallbearer was Bennie Mize.
Born in Taverner, Texas, Vance was the son of Uriah and Alvena Rasmunsen Cooper. He was raised in Bernard Prairie attended Nottawa Public School and East Bernard School.
Vance served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was awarded the purple heart.
On December 10, 1949, he was joined in marriage to the former Miss Jonnye Esterline Williams with a ceremony held in Houston.
Vance was a Chief Operator for Tennessee Gas for 31 years until his
retirement on July 1, 1999. Mr. Cooper was a member of American Legion Post  #200, Retired Volunteer Fireman, Disabled American Veteran and a member of Wallis First Baptist Church.
Vance Uriah Cooper died March 20, 2004 in Wharton, Texas.
He is survived by his daughters Donna Ellis and Husband Jack of Orchard, Mary Delso and husband Jerry of Wallis; sons Mike Cooper and wife Beth of Fort Smith, Ark., Vance T. Cooper and wife Margaret of Wallis, Doug Cooper and wife Elizabeth of Houston; sister Dorothy Brown of Montgomery; brothers
Sidney D. Cooper of Houston, Monroe Cooper of Friendswood; and grandchildren Jon D. Cooper, Clint U. Cooper, Steven L. Cooper, Vance R. Cooper, Peter T. Cooper, Michael R. Ellis, Robert A. Cooper, Chris M. Cooper, Wayne A. Delso, Douglas A. Cooper, Kathryn J. Ellis, Alyssa N. Ellis and Heather L. Delso.
He was preceded in death by his parents Uriah and Alvena Cooper; wife Jonnye Esterline Cooper; sister Willie Mae Holingsworth; brothers Dallas and Clarence Cooper and three infant brothers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels, Wallis.
