Funeral services for Nonie Koehn, 89, of Bellville were held Saturday, May
15, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville with Pastor
Michael Koehn, the Rev. H. Elden Akerman and the Rev. Walter Miller
officiating. Interment was at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville.
Serving as pallbearers were Michael Brast, Harry Brast, Clinton Brast, Gary
Bullard, Lynn Witten and Bill Vasicek.
Nonie was born in Bellville, the daughter of Albert and Emma Peters Brast
and attended Piney School, a very small school close to the Brazos River.
Most of her youth was spent in Bellville with her large extended family.
Nonie was united in marriage with Herman F. Koehn on December 21, 1932, in
Alvin. They and their two sons lived for many years in the Raccoon Bend area
before moving to Bellville approximately 12 years ago.
Most of Nonie's time and talent was devoted to her home and family. She
loved sewing for her children and grandchildren, crewel embroidery, candle
wicking, quilting and various crafts. But most of all, she enjoyed cooking.
All of her grandchildren have special memories of Snickerdoodle cookies,
animal pancakes, holiday meals and "care packages" that extended into
college. We believe she was a pioneer in eating healthy. She was often heard
to make the statement "You are what you eat."
Her involvement in the community included the Cochran Home Demonstration
club, Adult of the 4-H Girls Club, Brahma Band booster Member, Cancer
Society, Mary Circle of St. John Lutheran Church, Meals on Wheels and Home
room Mother for both sons through high school and helping wherever she was
needed.
Nonie Brast Koehn passed away on May 12, 2004.
She is survived by her sons, Charles A. Koehn and wife Yvonne of Cypress,
Herman F. Koehn and wife Gay of Livingston; sister, Olinda Brast Witten;
brothers, Melvin Brast and Albert Brast; grandchildren, Denise Braun of
Magnolia, Terri King of Houston, Charles Koehn, Jr. of Magnolia, Michael
Koehn of Lafayette, Colorado, Kim Baker of Houston, Chris Koehn of Dallas
and Mark Koehn of Alvin; great grandchildren, Joshua and Christian Koehn,
Ryan and Taylor King, Cody and Ellie Jo Koehn, Madison Koehn and Tessa
Koehn.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman F. Koehn; parents, Albert
and Emma Brast; brothers, Herbert and Leslie Brast; and great grandchild,
Kyler Koehn.
