Graveside services for Mattie Cary Lee, 90, of Bellville will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005 at 3 p.m. from Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near Bellville with the Rev. Andy Quails officiating. Mattie Lee Died on Friday Dec. 31, 2004 in Bellville. Mattie Cary Lee was born on Oct. 5, 1914 in Big Creek, Texas to parents MacNeil and Mattie (Due) Chapman. She was raised in the Houston area and attended San Jacinto High School. She was also a student of the first classes of the University of Houston held at San Jacinto High School, where she met her future husband, Marvin Melton Lee. The two were united in marriage on July 4, 1934 in Louisiana. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Houston until 1982 when they retired to Bellville. Marvin passed away in 1984. "Mamaw" as she was affectionately known, was a strong, caring Christian whose favorite verse was John 3:16 and John 14:6. She loved all of her family and friends. She will be terribly missed and was the best mother in the world. She is survived by her children, Robert Melton Lee and wife Chris of Bellville; Leta Jones and husband Larry of Bellville, Carolyn Gonzalez and husband Alex of New Mexico, and Patricia Wright and husband Ronald of Sealy; sister Bobbie Kirkham of Cleveland, and 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, MacNeil and Mattie Chapman, husband Marvin Melton Lee, and siblings, MacNeil, Edward, and Geanie Smith.
