Floyd Burger Blakey was born July 7, 1915 in San Felipe, the son of William Henry and Lillie Ann Burger Blakey. A lifelong resident of San Felipe, he was raised in the San Felipe Methodist Church. Floyd founded Blakey's Welding and Machine Service in 1946. On September 22, 1949, Floyd was united in marriage with Mildred Mateja in Sealy,. They made their home in San Felipe. A 50-year member of the San Felipe Masonic Lodge #239, AF & AM, Floyd was also a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also served on the San Felipe City Council for many years. A life member of the NRA, he liked to build guns and reload ammunition. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and ranching. He especially loved to travel on big hunting trips. Mr. Blakey passed away Tuesday, April 12, at his home in San Felipe after a long illness. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years; Mildred mateja Blakey; son: Adrian Blakey and his wife, Terry; granddaughter: Kristi Blakey Flores and her husband, Alex; and great granddaughters: Ashley and Megan Flores; all of San Felipe; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, William Henry "Bill" Blakey. Visitation was held Friday, April 15, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Tyler and Reverend Sonny Rice officiating. Interment followed in the San Felipe Cemetery. Pallbearers were Oliver Kitzman, James Wayne Lowman, Steve Schmidt, Dennis Einkauf, Russell Koym and Bob Royle. Honorary Pallbearers were Jack Craig, Larry Stolarske, Ed Mateja, Elex Flores, Marvin Sharp, Larry Rapsilver, Jones Finke and Lynn Everts. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Assoc., 2499 Capital of texas Hwy, South, Bldg., A #105, Austin, TX, 78746.
