Janik Mrs. Martha Mary Janik, 83, of Wharton died Monday, October 3rd in a Wharton Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on January 1, 1922 in Hungerford, Texas, the daughter of the late Joe Chumchal and Mary Knesek Chumchal. Mrs. Janik was a life-long resident of Wharton County and a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. She married Rudolph Pete Janik on may 17, 1941 in East Bernard and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2002. Mrs. Janik was a homemaker and a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 6 at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Father Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Ruth & Charles Viereck of Bellville; sons and daughters in law, Gene & Elaine Janik, Irvin Janik and Vernon Janik, all of Wharton and Larry and Donna Janik of El Campo; sister, Mary Kubena of Edna; brothers, Eddie, Ben, Daniel and Pete Chumchal, all of Wharton; Joe Chumchal of East Bernard and Louie Chumchal of Hungerford; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great, great grand-daughter. Pallbearers were her grandsons. In lieu of remembrances the family requests memorials be sent to Hospice Support Care, El Campo.
