After battling cancer for the past five years, Eddie J. Jurica, with his family by his side, passed on to eternal life on Friday, April 15. Funeral Services for Eddie, 87, of Sealy were held on Wednesday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Sealy with the Rev. Bernard Snock officiating. Interment was in the Sealy Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery with his great granddaughter Krystal Tyler and grandson, Terry Jurica, Jr. participating in the Military Graveside Service. Pallbearers for the service were Terry Jurica Jr., Albert Stolarskey Jr., Gerald Stolarskey, Gene Krupala, Tobey Baggerly and Tommy Machala. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Jurica, Albert Stolarskey Sr., Felix Lepok, Larry Jurica and Kenneth Jurica. Eddie was born on December 3, 1917 in Sealy to Frank and Annie (Hluchan) Jurica. He attended the LaHacienda School in Sealy. Eddie married Willie Mae Drymalla on June 28, 1942 with a ceremony held in Bellville and they were blessed with 61 years of marriage until her death in March 2004. They resided in the Hoston area and in 1946 made their home in Alief, TX where they raised their three children. Eddie served his country during World War II in the United States Army Quartermaster Corps from December 1942 until he was honorably discharged in January 1946 attaining the rank of Sergeant. When he returned from the Army, he worked construction and became a self-employed contractor. After Eddie put in a full week of building homes, he and Willie Mae would pack up the car and kids and drive to Sealy for the weekend, so he could work on his farm, planting cotton and corn and raising vegetables for his family and friends. In 1981, he retired, moved back to Sealy and built their home on his homeland where he passed away. For many years Eddie and Willie Mae attended club dances throughout the surrounding areas. Eddie loved working in his yard and garden and definitely had a green thumb which was noticed by all who drove by his home. He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He is survived by: daughters Jorene Smith and husband Garry of Wallis, Darleen Oliver of Sealy; son, Terry Jurica and wife Valerie of Cypress; four beloved grandchildren, Stacy Fountain and husband Terry of Center, Terry and Brandon Jurica of Cypress and Sarah Oliver of Sealy; great-grandchildren, Krystal Tyler, Brianna Smith and Jackie Marling of Center; sister Mollie Kopecky of Sealy and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae, parents, Frank and Annie, brothers, Johnnie and Frank; and sisters, Annie Krupala and Lydia Bravenec.
