Funeral Services for Duane Allen McLean, 72, of Houston, were held Monday, June 27 from Knesek Bros. Hwy. 36 Chapel in Sealy with the Rev. Bernard Snock officiating. Interment was at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Houston.
Duane was born to Marion and Edith (Caines) McLean on September 1, 1932 in Yakima, Wash. On August 15, 1958 he married Miss Margaret Lastovica in League City, a marriage lasting 47 years.
Duane served twenty-one years in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, then from 1956 through June 30, 1974 at which time he retired. His tour of duties included Occupied Japan, the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and in the Strategic Air Command.During his Military career he earned 10 medals, 15 ribbons, and nine clusters.
After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for Commercial Metals in Houston. His career, as Plant Superintendent, spanned 18 years before he retired at age 60. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and having his annual Easter BBQ. His greatest joy in life was his 12 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Duane Allen McLean passed away on June 24 in Sealy. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Lastovica) McLean of Houston, sons Robert Alvarez of Katy, Steve Alvarez and wife B.J. of Katy, Lance McLean and wife Elizabeth of Pearland, Frank McLean and wife Meleia of St. Francisville, La.; daughter Melanie (McLean) Alvarado and husband Juan of Los Angeles, Calif., two sisters Jackie Crosswhite of Yakima, Wash., Donetta Newland of Spokane, Wash., and his twin brother Dean McLean of Downers Grove, Ill. His parents Marion and Edith, three sisters Phyllis, Joyce, Darlene, and two brothers Ted and Jerold preceded him in death.
