John William O¹Brien was born Feb. 19, 1924, passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2005. He joins our Heavenly Father and his beloved wife of 52 years, Juanita Sander O¹Brien. He is survived by their four children, Robert Owen O¹Brien, Michael William O¹Brien and wife Terri, John Sander O¹Brien and wife Patricia, and Nancy O¹Brien Collins and husband Ronnie; nine grandchildren, Owen Bradley O¹Brien, Heather Anne O¹Brien, Kevin William O¹Brien, Robert William O¹Brien, John Michael O¹Brien, Kelley Marie O¹Brien, Melissa Kay O¹Brien, Kyle Joseph Collins and Claire Elise Collins. John grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated from Waco High and Baylor University, after which he served his country in the Army. He and Juanita met on a blind date in Bellvilles and married June 5, 1948. They settled in Austin in 1969, when John was news director at KVET/KASE radio station. Several years later he became the weekend news anchor for KTBC television in Austin. Later he worked in the State Comptroller¹s Office where he produced a weekly radio program and was best known as the ³Voice of the Texas Comptroller² until he retired in 1991. Upon his retirement, he was honored with a Resolution by the Texas Legislature. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at All Saint¹s Episcopal Church, 209 W. 27th St. in Austin. Graveside services were at 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim¹s Rest Cemetery in Bellville.
